$22.75 Very few Led Zeppelin performances were caught on camera during the band's life-span, but the footage that has been preserved for posterity is collected on this release. With a running time of over five-and-a-half hours, this is the definitive word on Zep's global ...
| | Neil Young Prairie Wind - Special Edition CD (2005) CD & DVD
Spotlight CD music
$20.25 The most striking characteristic of the album is its mood, which is heavily nostalgic, melancholy, and, lyrically, full of reflections on memory, loss, and mortality. (The passing of Young's father and his own experience with a brain aneurysm seem likely influences for the tone here). In this way, it comes close to the emotional intensity of early '70s classics like TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT, though perhaps without the edge and ragged beauty of that work. Instead, Young cut the album in Nashville with top-shelf personnel (Spooner Oldham is among the usual suspects), giving PRAIRIE WIND a smooth veneer. Still, there is a great warmth and ease to the sound, and Young turns in some of his finest songs in ages: the simple, heart-rending "It's a Dream," for example. Young has established and shattered enough categories in his time that a return to classic form like this is well-earned, and much appreciated.
This masterpiece completes the trilogy of his ...
| | Neutral Milk Hotel In The Aeroplane Over The Sea CD (1998)
Spotlight music CDs
$12.19 Neutral Milk Hotel leader Jeff Mangum is a popster who hears interstellar sounds as natural ingredients of his "pop." He was weaned with the inevitable four-track in his bedroom, schooled on a record collection stacked with John Cage and Captain Beefheart as well as the Beatles and the Kinks. There is an instant emotional intensity to Neutral Milk's music, and the seeds that were sewn on '96's lo-fi masterpiece ON AVERY ISLAND, bear an evolving fruit on IN THE AEROPLANE OVER THE SEA.
Mangum's psych-folk songwriter musings dominate the album's ...

| | Maggie Reilly Looking Back Moving Forward CD (2009) (Import)
Spotlight album
$9.99 Maggie Reilly has covered vast musical ground. From the jazz/funk of Cado Belle, performances with Karl-Heinz Stockhausen, her collaboration with Prog rocker Mike Oldfield, duets with Jack Bruce (Cream) and Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) through early nineties Euro pop and her thoughtful solo albums of the last decade.Maggieâs professional career began in 1970 when she recorded her first single âImagine Meâ. Shortly after, she met keyboard player Stuart MacKillop and formed the band âJoe Coolâ. In the mid-seventies Joe Cool swiftly transformed from an insider act into a Scottish pop phenomenon when they united with the equally well known, but more jazz-orientated formation "Up", forming the seminal Scottish funk-rock-band Cado Belle. However, in 1976 Punk rock swamped every other musical style in the UK, so the band split. After a time living and working in Ireland, Maggie formed her much acclaimed partnership with Mike Oldfield in 1980, producing such great songs as 'Moonlight Shadow', 'To France' and the Hall & Oates hit âFamily Manâ for which she received an ASCAP award in 1984.After parting with Oldfield and taking time out to start a family, Maggie resumed her solo career and awards came with increasing frequency. She joined forces with the major German publishing house Mambo, producing the Album âEchoesâ in 1991 for which she wrote the massive worldwide hit âEverytime we Touchâ alongside the European hits âWaitâ and âTears in the Rainâ.The Album âMidnight Sunâ followed in 1992, with the hits â âFollow the Midnight Sunâ and âWhat About Tomorrowâs Childrenâ.1996 saw the first of three albums for EMI, âElenaâ was a move away from the breezy pop songs of the Mambo period towards a more insightful songwriting style as shown on the atmospheric title track which featured the Finnish folk band âVaartinaâ chanting behind Maggieâs soaring lead vocal. There and Back Again (1998) gave ...
