Willow review Product Description

In a mythical kingdom, the evil sorceress Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh) plots to kill all infants so that the new born princess, Elora, will never take over the throne. But a midwife set the baby adrift in a river, and she is rescued by Willow, a farmer in Nelwyn, a peaceful village of trolls, faries, and little folk. Willow and Madmartigan begin a quest to deliver the baby from evil while being chased by Queen Bavmorda's Daughter, Sorsha (Joanne Whalley) sent to bring the baby back to Nockmaar.   ...See Full Description

Modern "Classic" on DVD at last
While not exactly at the cutting edge of special effects today, Willow was right up there when it was made in 1988, and subsequently I thought at the time it was better than sliced bread, seeing it numerous times at the cinema before the end of its run. An action packed medieval story line, where the Nelwin (Dwarf) Willow, is thrust into being an unlikely hero, in the protection of a baby who is prophesised to bring about the downfall of the evil Queen Bavmorda. Willow has always been one of my favourites, and to have it released in the clarity of DVD format, is a real Buzz. I highly recommend anyone who has enjoyed the first "Lord of the Rings" movie to give Willow a try if you have not seen it before. Starring Warwick Davis (Willow), Joanne Whalley, and a great swashbuckling performance by a younger Val Kilmer (before he became a self centered, stuck up snob). Directed by Ron Howard, Story by George Lucas, and Music by James Horner. (PS - Soundtrack is awesome by the way!)

Fantasy at it's best!
Excellant story line with plenty of action to satisfy. Comedy at it's best with some drama thrown in, magic and monsters, what better format for a fantasy film! A film worth watching again and again, fun for the whole family!

entertaining fantasy
Ron Howard's "Willow" - co-scripted by George Lucas - is a well crafted piece of cinemagic starring warwick davis, val kilmer and the beautiful joanne whalley (later kilmer's wife). in a setting reminiscent of Tolkien's middle earth, it tells of the brave Willow's journey to save the infant princess from a sacrificial ritual by the evil witch - a journey frought with trolls, dragons and battling hordes. Good FX and ideal for fantasy buffs - very under-rated at the time of release, but remastered and wonderfully visual.
