Reminiscent of Titanic and Posideon...!
Before the mega-films Titanic and The Posideon Adventure, there was this almost forgotten "disaster" movie. It is not as long as Titanic and that's why it is enjoyable and keeps you on edge till the last moment. The whole cast give a very convincing performance. Don't miss it!!

A splendid liner used for disaster.
Last Voyage film The setting of this movie is the aging trans-Pacific liner S.S. Claridon. Last Voyage review The set that was used for filming was the ex-French liner, Ile de France. The Ile de France was built in 1927 and was a magnificent and beautiful liner. She maintained a loyal following until her decommissioning in 1958. When the French Line sold the Ile de France to a Taiwanese ship breaker, it was assumed that she would be scrapped right away. She was rented out to MGM for $1,000 a day to be used for this film. With little done to hide her true identity, she was seen in the film being ravaged by explosion, fires, and destruction. After filming was complete, she was sent her way to the scrap yard. When the movie was released in theaters, the French Line was horrified. Because of this incident, shipping lines now require ship breakers to sign stringent sale contracts that state that the ships are to be sold only for scrap. For me, It is somewhat exciting to she the great Ile de France, one of the most beautiful liners of history, but that excitement becomes diminished when I watch her splendid majesty exploited and destroyed for a movie. There are very good plot lines, with several sub-plots that add to the complexity of an ocean liner disaster story. This film could have used a bit more music to accompany the more dramatic scenes. The acting was brilliantly done, and the editing was very good as well.

The Last Voyage - a must have film
Superb throughout with the added advantage the film studio leased the famous french liner 'Ille de France' as she was heading for the breakers. Anyboby interested in ocean liners, this is a must, as captured on film is the impressive interiors and huge engine spaces of this steam ship. Technically the film is excellent, foget digital effects, this is the real thing!!
