Insane Clown Posse's Forgotten Freshness, Vol. 3 isn't an official joker card -- that's ICP-speak for a full-length offering of new material. Instead, this 2001 outing, like its predecessor, Forgotten Freshness, Vol. 1-2, is a collection of B-sides, remixes, and specialty releases. This disc should satisfy listeners interested in hearing new rhymes over old ICP beats ("Posse on Vernor," "It"), professional wrestlers working their freestyle flow ("When Vampiro Gets High"), and Violent J's attempt at new age rap ("Fly Away"). However, rock and hip-hop fans uninterested in such sophomoric musings, comic gangsta stories, and Vanilla Ice guest spots should avoid Forgotten Freshness, Vol. 3. There is nothing offered on this collection that will cause ICP detractors or supporters to rethink whether or not the Detroit duo is making a mockery of hard-hop. But those who consider themselves juggalos -- that's ICP-speak for consumer, or sucker, depending on one's perspective -- might enjoy Forgotten Freshness, Vol. 3 and its loose and relatively dynamic presentation. ~ Vincent Jeffries

After a decade of proudly releasing offensive, obnoxious, and immature music that sold like gangbusters to kids around the Midwest, the Insane Clown Posse finally reached their much-prophesied "sixth Joker card," the last album in a conceptual journey that started with 1992's Carnival of Carnage. Claiming that everything up to this point had led to The Wraith: Shangri-La, they announce at the beginning that the meaning to their career will become evident by the end. And they wait until the very end of this ambitious album to reveal what it is, despite the occasional reference to Shangri-La (their metaphor for the afterlife). Waxing philosophical about ending the world's pains, ICP seem willing to spread some good vibes this time around. "Juggalo Homies" might even be the most positive song of their career; it actually has a great message about loyalty and friendship matched to a pleasantly laid-back rock track. Of course, the usual murder fantasies and sex anthems are in abundance, filled with the immature humor that has become their trademark.
