An award-winning and highly praised biography of controversial World War II hero General George S. Patton. The film covers his wartime activities and accomplishments, beginning with his entry into the North African campaign and ending with his removal from command after his outspoken criticism of US post-war military strategy. PATTON is a three-dimensional bronze bust of World War II field general George S. Patton (George C. Scott) who wrote poetry, fired pistols at strafing fighter planes, and loved America with a lofty and historical zeal. Tracing his personal rivalries with such generals as Rommel and Montgomery, his problematic treatment of his own men, and his nearly runaway contempt for diplomacy, the film triumphs as an enduring portrait of a complex and larger-than-life figure. PATTON was recipient of 10 Academy Award Nominations and winner of eight, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor--Scott, Best (Adapted) Screenplay--Francis Ford Coppola/Edmund H. North. General Omar N. Bradley (played by Karl Malden in the film) wrote one the major sources for the screenplay, "A Soldier's Story," and served as senior military technical advisor for the film. Luis Martin Pozuelo served as Spanish military technical advisor. Paul D. Harkins and Glover S. Johns, Jr., also served as technical advisors.
Tim Considine, who appears as the soldier who gets slapped, played Fred MacMurray's oldest son Mike on the TV sitcom "My Three Sons" for five years.
Producer Frank McCarthy spent 20 years trying to interest someone in the Patton biography before Fox mogul Darryl F. Zanuck purchased it. McCarthy once described the first screenplay, written by Francis Ford Coppola, as "poetic, marvelous, and rather shapeless."
Schaffner won the 1970 Best Director Award from the Director's Guild of America. Scott won the 1970 Best Actor Award from the National Board of Review, the New York Film Critics Circle, and the national Society of Film Critics. National Board of Review also named "Patton" the Best Film of 1970.
There are two different laserdisc editions of "Patton." One is not letterboxed and was first released in 1981-1984. The film also featured Eva Marie Saint, Richard Dysart, Murray Hamilton, Ed Lauter, and Kathryn Leigh Scott. Written by Williuam Luce from Ladislas Farago's book, "The Last Days of Patton." Patton Movie Review Average Rating: (4.9 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Patton The best war movie i have ever seen. George C. Scott makes an incredible performance. Truly an awesome film! Submitted by Reynolds (Tallahassee, Florida) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 2 found this helpful.
Required viewing Even after the passage of time, this movie should not be missed by younger viewers as a reaffirmation of what the defence of democracy is all about. The charactisation of Patton by George C Scott is masterful as are all the other players. Patton's grasp of reality in knowing what had to be done, unpopular as it was at the time, did much to bring a lengthy, tragic war to an end. The movie is well deserving of its long list of awards. Awesome WWII movie Geo. C. Scott gave a magnificent portrayal of General S. Patton. Well supported by Karl Maldon and other actors the movie (following an inspiring monologue) begins with the defeat of US solders at Kasserine Pass due to poor dicipline and inferior equipment. Enter George Patton! Movie stays on track from the highs and lows of his career. Much insight to the general is given throughout the movie allowing the audience to feel the convictions and political struggle of the man.
Movie was shot in techicolor on several European & African locations creates a real cinema sensation. A must own, especially if you have a surround-sound AV setup. Submitted by Jalgood310 (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Patton review
$15.09 Liam Neeson is an unstoppable force in this adrenaline-fueled thriller from director Pierre Morel. Bryan (Neeson) has taken early retirement from the CIA in order to live closer to his teenage daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace). Bryan's government work kept him away from Kim for much of her childhood, and he's now trying to make up for lost time. When Kim announces that she's taking a trip to Paris with her friend Amanda (Katie Cassidy), Bryan is apprehensive about her traveling on her own. His worst fear is soon realized, as Kim and Amanda are abducted upon their arrival in France. Bryan immediately springs into action, using his well-honed CIA skills to piece together clues from a single, frantic phone call he received from Kim. He hops a plane to Paris, determined to rescue his daughter before she falls off the grid completely. With some help from his old CIA buddies, he tracks down the kidnappers--an Albanian crime ring known for selling young girls into the sex trade. He quickly takes matters into his own hands, plowing his way through Paris's underworld as the clock ticks down and the bullets fly. His search propels him into the upper echelons of a massive crime ring, putting him closer and closer to his beloved daughter.
Neeson is known for tackling extremely cerebral roles, so it is interesting to see him in full-on action-hero mode. In TAKEN he is no less than a crime-fighting machine--a Bourne/Bond hybrid with a deathly serious baritone. And while he spends most of the film firing Uzis and snapping necks, he still manages to deliver a moving performance as an estranged father fighting for what he loves most in the world. The film undeniably owes a lot to Neeson's acting chops. He manages to raise this rather thinly plotted, deeply violent film a bar above your typical action fare.

$10.29 The second and final volume in Quentin Tarantino's KILL BILL series is another stylish, sprawling masterwork. VOLUME 2 picks up where the first film left off, as The Bride (Uma Thurman) resumes her quest to track down her former mentor, Bill (David Carradine), and exact revenge. But before she gets to Bill, she must first take out the remaining minions who helped to slaughter her best friends and fiancé. First up is Budd (Michael Madsen), a quiet but dangerous country boy who lives in a trailer. Next is Elle Driver (Darryl Hannah), a one-eyed vixen who doesn't appear to have a heart--or a conscience. As The Bride makes her way closer to Bill, scenes from her past are revisited, including her training with the angry and brutal Pai Mei (Gordon Liu). Finally, The Bride locates her man, sparking a truly unforgettable confrontation.
In contrast to the nearly dialogue-free first volume, VOLUME 2 is filled with extended conversations that bring the story full circle. Thurman is once again riveting as the determined assassin, while Carradine delivers one of his best performances ever as the sadistic title character. Director of photography Robert Richardson uses a variety of film stocks to great effect, adding even more flair to Tarantino's already eye-popping vision. Rounding out things is an electrifying soundtrack that features original music from The RZA and Robert Rodriguez, as well as songs from Shivaree, Ennio Morricone, and Johnny Cash.

$10.19 Robert Altman's take on the influential genre of the 1980s teen comedy surpasses most of its contemporaries in style and humor, although it never enjoyed the same success many of those films did. The film, based on a short story that ran in NATIONAL LAMPOON magazine, appears to be an excuse for the director to make an episodic comedy that will stop at nothing to get a laugh, and while this effort may not be one of Altman's best--it remains a funny, richly-layered satire of the teen exploitation genre.

$15.35 Filmmaker Steven Spielberg returns as director for this rip-roaring prequel to 1981's smash hit RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Here dashing, whip-wielding archaeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is joined by comely chanteuse Willie (Kate Capshaw) and a 12-year-old sidekick named Short Round (Ke Huy Quan). Together they search for a mystical stone stolen from an Indian community and stumble upon a dangerous Thuggee cult. Exotic locales, wild chases, death-defying cliffhangers, last-minute rescues, screaming damsels, and tribal sacrifices are the order of the day as the threesome attempt to acquire the stolen stone. A few scenes originally planned for RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK showed up in INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM--most notably the mine chase sequence, which was part of the 80 percent of TEMPLE OF DOOM shot on a soundstage. After the film's release, the MPAA's Classification & Ratings Board created a new rating--PG-13. Spielberg cast actress Kate Capshaw, who would later become his real-life wife, for the film.

$15.09 THE NEW CENTURIONS follows a group of Los Angles police recruits that includes part-time law student Roy (Stacey Keach), Gus (Scott Wilson), and Sergio (Erik Estrada). Roy is assigned to Kilvinsky (George C. Scott), a tough veteran who has established his own set of rules for dealing with life on the streets. Gus has a rough initiation when he mistakenly shoots the victim of a robbery. Meanwhile, Roy is drawn to his new life, and begins to neglect his law studies, much to the chagrin of his wife, Dorothy (Jane Alexander). As Kilvinsky nears retirement, Roy and Dorothy's life becomes more contentious.
Joseph Wambaugh had been with the LAPD for more than ten years when he wrote THE NEW CENTURIONS. In filming the novel, director Richard Fleischer follows Wambaugh's lead, focusing on the lives of patrol officers and exploring their fears, faults, and frailties. THE NEW CENTURIONS is clearly the forerunner of television police series like HILL STREET BLUES, NYPD BLUE, and Barry Levinson's masterly HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREETS.
George C. Scott and Stacy Keach star.
