Gregory Peck, Hugh Marlowe, Gary Merrill, Millard Mitchell, Dean Jagger, Robert Arthur - Dir:Henry King Gregory Peck leads the daylight bombing raid of a lifetime over Germany in this brilliant and riveting war drama featuring actual combat footage. This compelling World War II epic of the 8th Air Force, adapted from the novel by Sy Bartlett and Beirne Lay Jr., is given a new dimension by Gregory Peck, who plays a combat leader who guides his men to the absolute edge. Academy Award Nominations: 4, including Best Picture, Best Actor--Gregory Peck. Academy Awards: 2, including Best Supporting Actor--Dean Jagger. Dashing Gregory Peck stars as General Frank Savage, commander of the 8th Air Force during World War II. Loosely based on the true story of Major General Frank A. Armstrong, TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH begins with Savage appearing to be a fearless fighter with almost no compassion for his men. Told in flashback from the perspective of Major Harvey Stovall (Dean Jagger), the story unfolds as Savage takes over Stovall's Bomb Group in 1942. The company has suffered numerous losses, morale is at an all-time low, and the tired pilots and their crews are immediately antagonized by Savage's obsession with discipline, leaving Savage and Stovall with the onerous task of rebuilding the pride of a fighting force that despises its leader. Jagger received an Oscar for his efforts, but the real star is Peck, exhibiting a vast repertoire to portray a complicated character. Using actual combat footage from both American and German cameras, director Henry King creates an environment in which bravery and heroism count but war itself is anything but romantic. TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1998. Twelve O'Clock High Reviews: "...Peck commands this hardheaded depiction..." -- Rating: B+
-- Roy Hemming, Entertainment Weekly "...A great movie about the pressures of leadership..."

Terrific Movie! Twelve O'Clock High is a fabulous movie highlighting more than just glory in war, it highlights the conditions under which men had to work to try to survive and to try to succeed. Additionally, it is a comment to the fragility and durability of the human soul. Submitted by a reviewer (Bloomfield, IN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

More Than Memorable The best movies ever made were Forest
The best movies ever made were Gone With The Wind, Patton, Forest Gump, and Twelve O'Clock High. Not necessarily in that order but definitely the best. All had the background of war. They were all superbly written, acted, directed and filmed. They all received best actor nominations....Gable and Peck did not win. History has shown that they should have. History will also reveal Twelve O'Clock High to be more than worthy of being in the top five of all time. Did I forget Casablanca?

| | Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever DVD (2002) Widescreen
Twelve O'Clock High movie DVD
$6.29 In the mystifying opening sequence of BALLISTIC: ECKS VS. SEVER, a double kidnapping takes place on a rainy night in Vancouver with a minimal amount of wasted time and a maximum amount of violence. A little boy is picked up at the airport by his mother (Talisa Soto), whose car is stopped minutes later by thugs who steal the boy and say they're taking him to his father. Rounding the corner, the thugs see a car explode in front of them, and a dump truck smashes into a wall of other cars, spraying fire. A hooded martial arts expert takes out the thugs with some impressive kicks and swirls, then grabs the boy and leaves. Secret agent Sever (Lucy Liu) is the kidnapper here, an angry, heavily armed nut who literally goes ballistic for unknown reasons. Using automatic weapons and other highly explosive artillery, she annihilates at least a hundred policeman in the next scene, outside a shopping mall. A retired secret agent, Ecks (Antonio Banderas), is the only man who can stop her, and when he does--temporarily--the two join forces against the real culprit, Robert Gant (Gregg Henry). Gant has crafted a dangerous assassination weapon that triggers death at the push of a button once it is injected into its victim's bloodstream. And that weapon is living inside the little boy. To save him, and stop the weapon from being used again, Ecks and Sever must get Gant. BALLISTIC: ECKS VS. SEVER is a super-violent nonstop action extravaganza with a high-octane musical score by Don Davis. It is directed ...
