Elton John & Bernie Taupin first fame!!!
This movie DVD shows how everyone involved with the writing, playing, singing, producing, marketing for this album made it all work. Elton John is a true master of his own fame and history!

great rockumentary
The "Classic Albums" series is by far the best documentary series available on DVD. I own three in the series and have been blown away by all of them. Truly a musician's dream, everyone associated with the recording of the album is interviewed. The sound engineers sit at the mixing board and isolate tracks on the multitrack masters. Elton and Bernie talk about how they wrote the songs and the recording process. Great archival footage from '73 at the chateau in France where they recorded. Though I wish more songs were covered on the film, this is still a great piece and you're not likely to find one better on Elton John. If you aren't a Yellow Brick Road fan, you'll not like this; and as the emphasis is heavily on the musical aspects of the album (i.e. engineering and writing) musicians will relate better to what's going on and will derive more enjoyment out of it, but that's not to say that the average guy won't enjoy it immensely.

This is a Must Have
This is a great DVD with loads of archival footage from the recording sessions for Goodbye Yellowbrick Road as well as Elton John's career leading up to that album. Also contains analysis of the multitrack for selected tracks on the album by the album's producer, Gus Dugdeon. Loads of interviews with Elton John the band and others. If you're a guitar player Davey Johnstone also shows you how certain guitar parts are played. I have several DVDs in the Classic Albums series and this one on the DVD on Dark Side of the Moon are absolutely the best!

Good insight into a special time
Any fans of the classic '70s version of Elton John will be happy to have this DVD of Elton and his band of superior musicians making their magic at the Chateau in France. The added footage from the sessions in '73, and the guys having fun outside, from the Chateau itself make this a real find of some cool relics. I love the production breakdown of the instruments and vocals by producers, musicians involved. Hearing Del Newman describe how he was influenced to produce the string sections is way cool. I always loved the string section on the outro of "Danny Bailey" and Newman describes how did that exact part! Excellent! These classic album DVDs seem even more historically important when producers like Gus Dudgeon and Chas Chandler have recently passed away... but not before they gave us their precious insights as to how these magical albums were made... I'm glad they decided to make the series while most of those involved are still with us. And they are a nice change of pace from straight up music and concert videos... Kudos to the classic album series!

This is not a music DVD
I wouldn't consider this a music DVD - not a single complete song is played - they are all broken up by interviews and commentary. This is not at all what I expected when I ordered this DVD.
