CREOLE MOON was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
Following a string of albums that found Dr. John variously saluting Duke Ellington, tackling standards, and surrounding himself with British rock stars, the Crescent City king got back to home truths with CREOLE MOON. Throughout the album, Dr. John and his Big Easy compatriots serve up the kind of greasy, groove-heavy New Orleans-style R&B that first made the artist formerly known as Mac Rebbenack a success in the 1970s. Everyone from slide guitar hero Sonny Landreth to James Brown cohort Fred Wesley pops up to add bluesy grit and/or funky drive, but the steamy, percolating feel perpetuated throughout CREOLE MOON ultimately evokes the undiluted essence of Dr. John.

Quintessential Mojo Shaman Dr. John almost never disappoints and with his latest creation he shows us that he is the quintessential mojo shaman! If your musical tastes lean towards the funky, swamp infused, Creole flavored, funky incantations that only Mac can lay down. You're going to love "Creole Moon." Pure magic from a true talent. It's just what the Good Doctor prescribed! Submitted by greichenbach (Bradenton, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
It's all in here, creole style.... This cd has something for everyone. There's some blues, some jazz, a little classical & plenty of "fonk". That's a few degrees heavier than regular funk. My favorite cut is "imitation of love". (been there. it just took the doctor to tell me about it.) Salsa is all the way live. This cd requires you to pour a drink, sit down & pay close attention to what he's saying. I love it... Submitted by a reviewer (indpls, in, usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of the best Dr John This is a sum up of his best works from the beginning of the 70 and some more. Funk, blues, jazz, R&B, latin. A slpendid mix and a nice innersleeve too with lots of history of both New Orleans and music(if you could separete them). Submitted by a reviewer (Västerås, Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Screamin' And Hollerin' The Blues: The Worlds Of Charley Patton CDs (2001)
Creole Moon CD music
$157.55 Perhaps the most sumptuous, nay incredible, box set package ever devised for a blues artist, this lavish production contains seven CDs that not only contain everything Patton recorded as a soloist, but a ton of peripheral tracks to which he contributed or was associated. Yes, this has all 54 known extant Patton performances (including four unissued alternate takes), but that is, quite literally, not the half of it. There are also cuts recorded by other acts at Patton's sessions, including Walter Hawkins, Edith North Johnson, Henry Sims, Willie Brown, Son House, Louise Johnson, the gospel quartet the Delta Big Four, and Bertha Lee. Some of these he played on; some of them he might have played on; and some of them he didn't play on, though he knew (or might have known, anyway) the musicians. There are even a couple of test recordings of Paramount talent scout H.C. Speir reading headlines, which takes even this sort of fanaticism to the extreme, but why not the whole nine yards, right? Then there's an entire disc of tracks by other blues artists, spanning 1924 to 1957 (though mostly weighted toward the early years of that period), spotlighting songs that were related to Patton's repertoire, or inspired in some way by songs in his discography. That CD includes ...

Creole Moon album
$5.99 Line By Line Whether its songwriting or fiction, a West Virginia woman loves to write.~~~ MARTINSBURG, W. Va. Dont ask Billie Jo Gerver to play you one of her songs. And don't even think about asking her to sing any of her lyrics, either. "I've been told that I can sing, but I will never perform in public, and I don't play the guitar," she says with a laugh, sitting in her home office in Martinsburg, W. Va. , while a print of Gen. Robert E. Lee looks down from the wall. ~~~~ Gerver may not be blessed with siren-like pipes or the talent to pick out "Mary Has A Little Lamb" on a guitar, but that's what makes her songwriting abilities even more amazing. Growing up in a small town in Hampshire County, W. Va. , Gerver is one of many siblings, including six sisters and two brothers. She says music was always part of their home. "My mom used to entertain us with vocals that could have passed for Loretta Lynn or Tammy Wynette," she says. "While strumming an old guitar, her sweet, tangy voice certainly would have pleased Grand Ole Opry spectators. I have quite a few cherished memories of those days, alwayseager to hear more as she instilled country music into our heart and soul. She started writing, earning her four nominations of Poet of the Year as well as one of her favorite poems published in Miracles of Nature. From there, she naturally progressed to songwriting. "I would like to consider myself to be a professional songwriter, but as with any gift, talent, or the love for music, there is always a lesson to be learned and honed to perfection. Nothing should ever pass in vain or be taken for granted," she says. Gerver has also found songwriting fans from a group she didn't expect a band of rock 'n' rollers. Darkness Descending, a hard rock band from Front Royal, Va. , is performing her ...
