Four years since the unnoticed Already, Jesus Jones returned in fall 2001 with London. Stylistically, Jesus Jones delivers the same jaunty pop hooks that made them rock gods with "Real Real Real" and "Right Here, Right Now." Mike Edwards and his crew aren't necessarily concerned with making music for the masses, either. Songs such as "Message" and the catchy electronic twist of "Stranger" perfect Jesus Jones' signature acid house aesthetic over hearty guitar work. The artsy synth beats of "The Rocket Ships of La Jolla" showcase a space rock ambience, but it's the hazy aesthetic of "The A Team" that reflects Jesus Jones' desire for '70s glam rock appeal. A humorous and dazzling track reflecting on the '80s TV show, "The A Team" supersedes the band's fiery disposition on "Nowhere Slow." Perhaps that's their swan song? Nah, Jesus Jones has taken their sweet time in making new music. London is about them and the natural progression in perfecting the music they want to play out live. However, the loyalists who made them superstars nearly ten years prior to this release might have outgrown them. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
Recorded between December 2001 & August 2001.

London Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) they're back A great effort, first track hooks you and rolls on from there. My pick is getaway car..it's got a different sound but has me listening to it again and again. Submitted by a reviewer (pittsburgh, pa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
ga-roovy! A keeper! First track, Message, hooked me with a good rock beat. Album has a good mix of faster and slower paced music. Track #5 Hello Neon is my pick. Submitted by a reviewer (Pittsburgh, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Tremendous Return! Whatever Jesus Jones album I happen to be listening to is usually my favorite by the band at that moment, and this album is no exception. On first listen, the middle tracks (The A Team in particular) seemed a little weaker than the beginning and the end, but after listening to the album a few times, they measure up well. In fact, I didn't care for Hello, Neon! at all at first, and it is now my favorite track. This album will have a spot in my CD case for a long time to come!

London album
$6.75 On CRYSTAL PLANET Satch provides his fans with exactly what they've come to expect: crunching riffs, soaring melodies, chord changes and solos from heaven. He deviates little from such past releases as THE EXTREMIST and SURFING WITH THE ALIEN, and as the saying goes: "if it ain't broke". That's not to say he doesn't stay contemporary, as "Raspberry Jam Delta-V" effectively dabbles in electronica as subtle background noise.
"Love Thing" is a beautiful ballad and potential single, and Satch is able to make the guitar "talk". There are ...

| | Bob Seger Smokin' O.P.'s CD (1972) Remastered
London CD music
$8.05 Bob Seger closed out his Capitol contract with Brand New Morning, a singer/songwriter album quite unlike anything he had yet released. Following its release he moved to the Detroit-based label Palladium and returned to hard-driving rock & roll with Smokin' O.P.'s, the polar opposite of Brand New Morning. According to legend, the title stands for "smoking other people's songs," which makes sense since this is a cover album that even covers Bob Seger & the Last Heard. In other words, it's nothing like the intimate, reflective, risky Brand New Morning, but that doesn't matter since it rocks so well and since it reveals that Seger isn't just a first-class bandleader and rock songwriter, but that he's a terrific interpreter of other writers' songs. Even well-worn tunes like "Bo Diddley" and "If I Were a Carpenter" get made fresh by internalizing the hooks, turning them into something fresh and original. That's also true of songs ...

Though not marketed overtly as a live album, MIRRORBALL sports periodic crowd noises along with an astonishingly clean sound. It also explores aspects of the Sarah McLachlan phenomenon--the frank, confessional singer/songwriter style of music that has made her so popular and the excess of commercialism that irritates her detractors to no end. Regarding the latter, the disc contains a CD-ROM catalogue that contains order forms for everything from CDs and videos to temporary tattoos and gift certificates for Sarah merchandise, in addition to the usual web links.
The performances on MIRRORBALL are dynamic and inspired, especially in the guitar work of David Sinclair ...

Having made their LP debut with half an album's worth of repackaged oldies, the Sweet then followed through with an entire disc of the things, drawing from both their own recent back catalog and that of songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, to create a record of almost unholy pop pleasure. For the Sweet were not the only arrow in the Chinn and Chapman quiver. They were scoring hits, too, with New World, with their "Tom Tom Turnaround" ranking among the most mawkishly compulsive songs in the duo's entire catalog. Passing it on to the Sweet to cover for their own LP didn't simply make sense from a commercial point of view. It was also the first step toward establishing Chinnichap as a songwriting brand name that would ultimately become as self-sufficient as any Motown, Brill, or Kasenetz-Katz coupling. Two recent Sweet singles, "Funny Funny" and "Co Co," and three B-sides, "Jeanie," "Spotlight," and "Done Me Wrong Alright," do weight this supremely punningly titled set down a little -- add "Tom Tom Turnaround" and the average fan would probably have owned a full half of the record before even picking it up. It should also be acknowledged that the remainder of the record was in no way comparable with the quality of those other songs. A lackluster rendering of "Daydream" and the unappetizing American soft rock stylisms of "Santa Monica Sunshine," "Reflections," "Honeysuckle Love," and "Sunny Sleeps Late" are all little more than bland filler. However, "Chop Chop" absolutely remedies the rest of the album's failings. Another Chinn and Chapman classic, it was originally recorded by singing DJ Tony Blackburn, with members of the Sweet themselves on backing vocals. It failed to take off, and the Sweet add little more to it than Blackburn had already tried. But, in the company of those other hits, its original failure seems incredible -- as incredible, in fact, as the Sweet's own success. ~ Dave Thompson
