(16 Customer Reviews)
Though it may seem as if the Backstreet Boys have been around forever, it's only been since 1995, as evidenced by the pictures from their first-ever photo shoot featured in THE HITS CD booklet. Mirroring their artistic development through the years, the hairstyles and clothes may have changed, but the group's essence, catnip to teens for over half a decade, remains the same--pure, unadulterated pop.
These 13 tracks are proof, if any were needed, of the group's undisputed mastery of late-'90s pop and their ability to morph, with chameleon-like ease, between the hip-hop-lite of "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)," the ABBA-style pop of "Quit Playing Games," and the tearful balladry of "I Want it That Way." Credit is also due to their Svengali, the Sweden-based pop wizard Max Martin, who masterminds most of these cuts and gives them a depth and musicality lacking in the work of many of the Boys' peers.
Also Features A New Track "Drowning"
Backstreet Boys: Kevin Richardson, Howard "Howie D" Dorough, Alexander James "AJ" McLean, Brian "B-Rok" Littrell, Nick Carter.
Producers include: Max Martin, Rami, Kristian Lundin, Franciz & Le Point, Timmy Allen.

| | Billy Mackenzie Auchtermatic CD (2005) (Import) Import; United Kingdom
Hits: Chapter 1 songs
$23.65 Part of the 2005 reissue series covering the last years of Billy Mackenzie's life, Auchtermatic bears a general resemblance to the earlier posthumous compilation Eurocentric as Transmission Impossible does to Beyond the Sun -- a resequenced and more specifically focused presentation of his work, in this case the electronic side as opposed to the torch/cabaret efforts. That said, Auchtermatic starts off with one of Mackenzie's most brawling, straight-ahead rockers ever, "Soul Jewel," a wake-up call that leads into a kaleidoscopic collection of songs. Half the album covers work with his key final collaborator, Steve Aungle, and at their songs' best Mackenzie ...

| | Randall Bramblett Rich Someday CD (2006)
Hits: Chapter 1 CD music
$11.99 For his third album on New West, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Randall Bramblett delivers another terrific set of intelligent, folk-inflected Southern rock. Drummer Gerry Hansen replaces Michael Rhodes as producer and he helps position the sound to be more direct and stripped down than on past Bramblett releases. There are fewer loops and not as much layering of instruments, which makes the approach more immediate, but no less affecting. Bramblett's honey and grits voice perfectly conveys the feeling of loss that runs through the melancholy lyrics of tunes such as the lovely "The More You Fade," "Hate to See You Go," and the opening "Where Are You Tonight?" That's ...
| | Oasis Stop The Clocks CD (2006) Bonus DVD; Japan
Hits: Chapter 1 music CDs
$49.15 Although long-players like DEFINITELY MAYBE and (WHAT'S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY? are certified Britpop classics, Oasis has always been a singles band, so 2006's two-disc best-of, STOP THE CLOCKS, was a welcome arrival. Oasis has never been touted for their groundbreaking originality, but it's precisely their retro-styled concoction of irrepressible hooks and alternately chiming and roaring guitars that makes their music so appealing. STOP THE CLOCKS drives that point home and then some.
Stretching from early gems like "Rock 'N' Roll Star" and "Live Forever" through latter period singles such as "Lyla," with the mega-hits ("Wonderwall") and B-sides sprinkled in along the way, the compilation serves to remind why the band was one of the most popular British acts of the '90s and beyond. Throughout, the towering wall of guitars, Liam Gallagher's sneering vocals, and brother Noel's impeccable songcraft create a rock template that pushes all the right pleasure buttons, and with 23 of the band's best on offer, STOP THE CLOCKS provides a lot of pleasure.
A young Noel Gallagher at the height of Oasis' popularity in the mid-'90s declared that the band would not release a compilation CD until the end of their career, since such compilations implied that a band's career was indeed over. A decade later, an older, presumably ...
