(2 Customer Reviews)
This two-fer compiles Polly Bergen's All Alone by the Telephone and Four Seasons of Love. It's an economical and convenient way for those who have a limited knowledge of Bergen's music to increase their knowledge and discover what lies beyond the singer's best-known recordings. ~ Jason Birchmeier

All Alone By The Telephone/Four Seasons Of Love Music Polly Bergen All Alone By The Telephone/Four Seasons Of Love Songs All Alone By The Telephone/Four Seasons Of Love Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Very Deep and Sad, roimantic music Polly Bergen may have the saddest voice in music. And it's very evident in these two lp's from the late 50's and early 60's.
Songs like AUTUMN LEAVES, SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN, CANADIAN SUNSET, IT'S EASY TO REMEMBER, and I'M ALWAYS CHASING RAINBOWS are examples of this sad, romantic mood, but so is evry other song. As soon as you start the cd and one song goes to the next, the sadness in her voice and music really hit you with a deep mood and this style continues throughout (though Canadian Sunset has a little bit more of an upbeat sound in the music, but still sad in her voice).
Wionderful orchestra music with strings back her up.
if you like the sad stuff of Julie london, Jeri Southern, and the lioke, this is for you. Submitted by rodd78 (Orleans, Ontario, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
vocals no one sings a torch song as well as Polly Bergen (not even Billy Holliday) Submitted by MLKSQ (Miami Beach,Fl, U.S.A.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

All Alone By The Telephone/Four Seasons Of Love music CDs
$16.69 Charlie Parker's love affair with strings, most notably during the 1950's for Verve Records, made it acceptable for other saxophonists to undertake similar projects. After all, if a player of the magnitude of Parker can indulge, than it must be OK for everyone else. Gary Smulyan, who is a member of the Charles Mingus Big Band, undertakes the daunting task of linking the deep, robust sound of a baritone with a string section without creating nothing more than sugar-coated boredom. With the help of Bob Belden's charts, that musical objective is achieved. The deep sound and rich color unique ...
| | Mahavishnu Orchestra Mahavishnu CD (1984)
All Alone By The Telephone/Four Seasons Of Love songs
$10.49 John McLaughlin resurrected the esteemed old Mahavishnu Orchestra for his mid-'80s quintet, even getting old mate Billy Cobham to fill the drum slot on the band's first album. But this is an entirely different conception than any of the '70s Mahavishnu outfits. The sound is cooler, less strident, more thoroughly dominated by advanced electronic textures -- including a sleekly elegant digital guitar played through a Synclavier. Instead of a violin, Bill Evans contributes some swirling ...

All Alone By The Telephone/Four Seasons Of Love album
$13.85 UNKLE's long-awaited 2004 follow-up to 1998's PSYENCE FICTION sees DJ Shadow M.I.A. and mainstay James Lavelle instead employing longtime party pal Richard File, who replaces Shadow's loping, doom-laden vibes with something a bit more psychedelic and free-floating. A plethora of stellar guests solidifies the new sound, including Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja (the synth-laden "Invasion"), Jarvis Cocker and Brian Eno (the 4 a.m. paranoia of "I Need Something Stronger"), and Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme (the urgent "Safe in Mind [Please Take This Gun from Out My Face]").
"In a State" is a smooth, groove-heavy track, with File crooning ...

All Alone By The Telephone/Four Seasons Of Love CD music
$9.09 Mississippi-born but Texas-based Omar Kent Dykes understands a fundamental fact about modern electric blues. He knows there are only a handful of rhythms and themes in the blues grab bag, and he uses them all over and over again in slightly different guises. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. The blues has lasted this long because it's supposed to sound like the blues, and if you stretch it too far you end up with something like prog rock. It is this fundamental conservatism of the blues and its limited palette that has kept the form alive long after its colorful offspring (R&B, soul, rock & ...
