Blueprint for Sunrise is something of a companion piece (almost 30 years down the road) to 1973's Feeling the Space, both being Ono's ruminations on the position and persistence of women in the world. There's still some anger present, but this time it's tempered with acceptance, but not resignation. Although she's made some concessions toward the pop world, Yoko is still firmly entrenched in the avant-garde fringes of rock. Most songs feature some of Yoko's trademark vocalizing, and a couple seem to be live recordings with mostly improvised accompaniment. The best moments of the album, however, come when the outside tendencies are reigned in, and something more resembling conventional songs come forward. The insistent funk groove with blasts of guitar noise on "It's Time for Action!" and Marley-flavored reggae of "I'm Not Getting Enough" are particularly successful, as are the Rhodes-led "Wouldnit Swing" and the piano-driven rocker "Soul Got Out of the Box." "I Remember Everything" is a surprisingly tender love song. Yoko Ono is still an acquired taste, to say the least, but Blueprint for a Sunrise hits as often as it misses. ~ Sean Westergaard

| Blueprint For A Sunrise Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Yoko Rises Again Despite rumors to the contrary, Yoko Ono has been producing a wide range of music for several years, from the screamers that most people associate with her, to beautiful ballads and rockers to experiemental sounds. She's written songs that run the gamut of human emotion - incorporating feelings of anger, love, frustration, fear, loneliness and almost always hope for the future. This CD covers all of this territory and more. Yoko puts everyone in a good mood right from the cover graphic, which features her face superimposed on a portrait of a Chinese Empress who was the first-ever Dragon Lady, so named by the British press.Yoko sings about loneliness in "I'm Not Getting Enough" - "Stars orbiting in space/sun's rising on my face/Times are getting heavy again/An' I'm feeling black and blue". She continues her concern for other women and carries the torch of feminism in "I Want You To Remember Me" in which a woman tries to break off a relationship, only to be murdered. "Months went by/Years went by/No shadow was left of me/I want you to remember me." And in the spirit of hope, in her new version of "Rising" she urges us to have courage..and rise together. BLUEPRINT FOR A SUNRISE should please Yoko fans who prefer the experimental music, and is a pretty good place for newer fans to begin. Submitted by a reviewer (Sault Ste. a wonderful piece of art Yoko's music is a piece of art, not only to be listened to, but to be felt as a whole. This new album demonstrates it clearly. She's owner of a very unique style of singing and composing, her easthetics are absolutely original and personal. Submitted by a reviewer (Rio de Janeiro) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
cool heart and soul This was the first Yoko Ono album I bought and it wasn't the last either. This covers both her experimental and musical sides.
It's worth checking out 'cuz "it's time for action!" Submitted by a reviewer (new york, new york) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.
Love it! I am so glad that Yoko is still around and doing her thing all over us. I love the abstract quality of the new album and love how natural Yoko is in the delivery of her message. It's like contemplating a river, from the standing pools to the white water-- you just watch it happen and internalize it's benefit. And somehow, some bits of reality make a little more sense.
