Assemblage 23: Tom Shear (vocals, various instruments). Audio Mixer: Tom Shear. Recording information: 2001. Photographer: Alan McClelland. After such a powerful debut release, Failure was a much-anticipated follow-up from electro act Assemblage 23. Tom Shear did not disappoint, and Failure transcended any expectation. The sound of Assemblage 23 has evolved into something darker and more refined, and Shear has more to say. The combination of these elements leaves a release that is energetic, emotive, and uses sound in an original way. Failure opens with one the strongest tracks. "Naked" is honest and uplifting despite the heavy dance beat and smooth electro melody. "I Am the Rain" and "Disappoint" are equally danceable, but again Shear has not compromised the complexities of his harmonies or the gravity of the music in doing this. Tracks such as "Tried" and "Longevity" slow the pace, allowing Shear's heavy vocals to take the fore over percussive synth melodies and sweeps. "King of Insects" juxtaposes haunting melodies over the energy of breakbeats as the artist stretches the limits of the genre in a truly accomplished conclusion to the release. There is enough going on with this release, musically and emotionally, that it will demand repeat listenings. These traits mix to form what could be one of the most important releases of the genre. ~ Theo Kavadias

I was not expecting this Cd to be that good but it turned out so much better than I expected. Infact, I am listening to the cd as we speak. I Am the Rain House on Fire and Disappoint are my favorite songs from this CD. Great music and great lyrics. I LOVE IT!!! Submitted by alejandro720 (El Paso, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Darkly driving This is an excellent cd. Rarely do I find one that I like every single track listing! I recommend listening to Failure while driving or just sitting at home with the lights out. 'I am the Rain' is one of my favourites, but like I said, the whole cd is good! Submitted by Epiphany (Cincinnati, OH) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Techno Music I just got this CD a couple days and been playing it since. I have all the CDs by Tom Shear now. Still,I can't get enough. Tom's music is so awsome. Unlike some CDs which may contain a few songs you don't like, I enjoy every piece played in Assemblage 23. Submitted by a reviewer (San Clemente, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Thought-provoking and profound.. A definite must-have for any dark ebm/goth fan. All of Assemblage 23's albums are amazing (in my opinion) however 'Failure' will always have a special spot in my collection.
Great tracks include: 'Disappoint' - the lyrics alone could make you weep, 'Divide', 'Awake', Silence'. but really the whole album is just fantastic.

$9.29 Personnel: The Barcelona Tribe Of Soulsters. If you can imagine the music of Vangelis with a Spanish flavor, that's exactly what B-Tribe sounds like on Fiesta Fatal!. Spanish flamenco guitar and chanting vocals are united with high-tech, very electronic tracks and an ambience that was clearly influenced by Vangelis. Like a lot of the electronica that was recorded in the early to mid-'90s, B-Tribe on the whole tends to be a bit too clean-sounding, too produced and too slick for its own good. But the music is certainly different and unconventional, and the last thing one would call this CD is generic. Despite its limitations, Fiesta Fatal! makes for an enjoyable listen. ~ Alex Henderson If you can imagine the music of Vangelis with a Spanish flavor, that's exactly what B-Tribe sounds like on Fiesta Fatal! $13.25 DAVID AND STEVE GORDONBrothers David and Steve Gordon, owners and key artists of their very successful music label, Sequoia Records, have been creating music for over twenty years. Uniting their love for nature with the complimentary sounds of their gentle music has placed them in the annals of New Age and World Music as originators, trend-setters, top-sellers and award winners.Their albums capture the essence of magical places, recording the sounds of nature and blending them with beautifully composed music that reflects the beauty and healing properties of those serene environments. The dynamic of world dance rhythms, the serenity of native flutes, the expressiveness of guitar, the mood of synthesizers and the powerful beat of native drums, have resulted in a new kind of music, which has already proven influential in changing the direction of contemporary Native sounds and New Age music as a whole."The Garden of Serenity is filled with birds, old wind chimes, pipes; you know there are stone- walls there, a cacophony of sound that forms the tone of God. Each track is 30 minutes, the first devoted to Secret fountain, the second to Nature Spirits. Nature Sprits lifts off into a forest, a creek, birds, a gay enchantment that becomes denser with entities all about us, in the air, climbing the trees, dancing in the sunlight, smiling in the soil, a world and a universe that lives and breathes and has its being. The serenity here is busy, yet very peaceful, alive with marvels, with everyday miracles ...
