This spirited, crunchy guitar-driven party is certainly wild enough, but there's a very dated corporate rock feeling, as if guitarist Schenker and vocalist Chris Logan swiped a few outtakes from some old Journey or Bad English sessions. Appealing, sure, but hardly something new. Neal Schon would have a great time listening to the blistering solos on tracks like "Because I Can." One unique twist is that most rock outfits with this kind of intensity don't incorporate the spiritual values these Christian guys do. There's nothing too preachy, just lyrics about positive living in the face of temptations and honest spiritual doubts (about religious rules) on the punchy, rebellious closer "Eyes of a Child." Lots of fun, but only if you're in the mood for time traveling. ~ Jonathan Widran

Although I wasn't very impressed at first with this cd, it has gotten better as I have listened to it more. I think he's done better, but I believe I need to listen to it more to really take in these songs. Still good rock'n'roll though.

Schenker still sounds good!
This recording is a good example of the versatility of Michael Schenker. MSG covers many styles and explores a bit with this album, but Michael's guitar playing always shines through, wrapping the songs together with a melodious thread. Strong vocals and harmonies.

If you like hooky guitar driven hard rock,you should buy this cd. The new singer is melodic and surprisingly good, and as one comes to expect, Schenkers guitar playing is as jaw dropping as usual.

Michael's current work continues to impress
me with the range of his talent. It seems to
have no boundries. The tracks on this current
release all have the current classic "michael
schenker" sound and his style works well with
Chris Logan on vocals and Jeff Martin on drums.If you are a Schenker fan you will not
want to take it out of you cd player.

Too many people are telling Michael Schenker to go back to his roots. The problem with this is that Schenker is an even better player now than back in the late 70s. Be Aware of Scorpions is a superb rock album. Track 8, Standing on the Road, is a masterpiece of song-writing and guitar-playing. But also check out tracks 2,6,10,11,12 - and so on. Basically, it's all rock of the highest quality. The main problem is that Schenker often plays to audiences who haven't the musical understanding to fully appreciate him. Spinal Tap this is not.

After leaving Capitol and losing longtime guitarist Marty Friedman, Megadeth felt that a retooling was in order. Risk had been the culmination of their move toward commercial accessibility, so much so that the album engendered a backlash among fans. So, they attempted to craft a more metallic record with The World Needs a Hero, going so far as to resurrect early-years mascot Vic Rattlehead for a gory cover that just screams heavy metal. And The World Needs a Hero does indeed prove to be the band's heaviest offering in quite some time, certainly much more so than Risk. In fact, fans who just want to hear the group play straight-up metal will probably find this their best album since Rust in Peace or Countdown to Extinction -- and Dave Mustaine tries to conjure memories of both. "Return to Hangar" is a sequel to Rust's prog-thrash classic "Hangar 18"; the new lyrics are in the same meter, but recited over a much simpler riff (shades of Metallica's "Unforgiven II," anyone?). Album closer "When" nicks riffs from Metallica's "Am I Evil?" cover; meanwhile, "Dread and the Fugitive Mind" (which first appeared on Capitol Punishment) has a growly recitation and stop-start riff straight out of "Sweating Bullets." These tracks point up the album's biggest problem: too much of the material feels like rehashed Megadeth Lite. Most cuts are taken at medium-to-slow tempos, and Mustaine's production is still pretty radio-friendly, which means that the group never quite kicks up the fury ...
