LIBRE was nominated for the 2002 Latin Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album.
LIBRE was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Salsa Album.
The talented singer/actor here presents the sixth in a collection of releases that have earned him the title the reigning King Of Salsa. Unlike his self-titled crossover 1999 release, this one is in Spanish, but no translation is necessary for the mighty swing generated by Marc Anthony's passionate delivery.
From the intense, steamy groove of "Celos" through the emotional pleading of "Viviendo" and the slinky, "Hasta Que Vuelvas Conmingo," Anthony doesn't let up the pressure for a moment. Only the final cut, the guitar-accompanied "Caminare," points to the singer's softer side--mostly, LIBRE is a wild, horn and percussion-inflected ride that'll leave you agape at the artistry of this gifted performer.
Recorded at Lobo Recording Studios, Long Island, New York.
Personnel includes: Marc Anthony (vocals); Andy Abad, David Dominguez (guitar); Yomo Toro (cuatro); Alberto Martinez (trumpet); Ozzie Melendez (trombone); Juan A. Gonzalez (piano); Erben Perez (bass); Marc Quinones (percussion).

Well, personally, I liked this alubum... As you can see some people rated low, but personally, I liked this album, although I did not consider it as his best work ever. There is no doubt that he is a great singer and sings English songs well, but I like him much better in Spanish, and I had waited him long time to release another Spanish album!
I totally agree with the opinion from Germany; Anthony is not a typical salsero with strong voice and upbeat. He has this original, rather "soft" style of songs, and I love his touching, emotional, "mellow" voice. Neither do I think that his voice would fit those upbeat traditional style salsa.
I do also like the "typical" salsa numbers, and I tend to feel like listening them in summer time. But during winter time, I always miss Anthony's voice...am I the only one???
Honestly, I did not like this album that much when I listened through the album for the first time, but I came to like the most of the song as I listened more. If you more try to have your attention to "how well he interpretes the lyrics", rather than to rythm or beat...you'll see why I thought this album was good enough. $13.79 This is an uneven rarities/retrospective package from one of pop music's most underrated writers and misunderstood characters -- uneven because that's the reality of Tonio K's professional career. Beginning as a member of the posthumous Buddy Holly backing band the Crickets in the early to mid-'70s under his given name Steve Krikorian, Tonio K made a real name for himself in the late '70s as America's outrageous answer to the British "angry young man" phenomenon carved out by Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson, among others. Needless to say he never achieved the notoriety of those two but as these songs will attest Tonio K could be every bit as clever and biting as his famous counterparts. The majority of selections here are previously unreleased tracks from K's Life in the Foodchain and Amerika period as well as demos for the La Bomba EP. A small sampling of his immediate pre-Romeo Unchained songwriting is unveiled as well. Concluding this album is the sarcastic, semi-hit "I'm Supposed to have Sex With You" from the film Summer School followed by two minutes of sophomoric foolishness involving a hamster. ~ Dave Sleger
