Miasma music CDs
$10.15 On his 14th album (not including compilations) in 18 years, Nick Saloman finds himself reassessing his career as one of the British psychedelic underground's key figures,as both the leader and sole constant member of the Bevis Frond and as the publisher of the ...
| | Bevis Frond Hit Squad CD (2004)
Miasma songs
$10.69 Will Nick Saloman never run out of ideas? After releasing more than 20 albums in 15 years (many of them double LPs), he's still cranking out solid pop-psych, and still packing as much music as he can onto those little silver discs. And clocking in at 78-plus minutes, Hit Squad continues the trend and offers up some fresh additions as well. The "Penny Lane"-esque trumpet fanfare on "All Set" is one twist on the Bevis sound, as are the sweet female backing vocals on "Way Back When." Then there's the moody (and lengthy) "Fast Falls the Eventide," with its weird treated drum sound and odd synth tones, which is unlike anything in the Bevis catalog. Besides that, he offers up the full gamut of Bevis Frond sounds, from the introspective "Crumbs" to the very heavy "Am I Burning?" and nearly everything in between. The title cut sounds something like the "Batman Theme" crossed with Blue Cheer's take on "Summertime Blues," but "Through the Hedge" is classic epic Bevis: nearly nine ...
| | Bevis Frond Bevis Through The Looking Glass CD (1988)
Miasma album
$10.69 This collection was originally released in 1987 as a vinyl only edition of 500.
Although the Bevis Frond only appeared on disc with 1987's Miasma, Nick Saloman had in fact been a struggling musician for a good two decades before that breakthrough. (Indeed, the final track here, the paisley pop "Alistair Jones," was recorded in 1967, when Saloman was all of 14 years old.) Originally released in a signed limited-edition record of 500 copies, then reissued as a double-LP set on Reckless (with all of the tracks eventually showing up as filler on Reckless' CD releases ...
| | Bevis Frond London Stone CD (1993) Bonus Tracks
Miasma CD music
$10.79 If you were to take any three albums by the Bevis Frond and reshuffle the tracks, you could easily come up with two albums of brilliant material and one album that shouldn't be released. One of those discs would be tough, hard-rocking, and poetic, the other wistfully bleak electric folk. The third release, the one that would never see the light of day, would be derivative psychedelia that shows promise but never quite delivers. The good news is that London Stone would have a lot of selections on the first two albums and only one or two tracks for the third. Among the hard-rocking highlights are the organ-driven "Still Trying" and the incredible "Coming Round," which ranks with the best up-tempo tracks Nick Saloman has ever laid down. It's hard to imagine that both parts of that sinuous, muscular guitar duel were played by the same guy, who is also tossing in the tasty bass work, but that's the genius of Saloman in the studio. "And Now She's Gone" approaches ...
