Mary Louise Defender Wilson's My Relatives Say is a collection of stories, a sort of a guide for living, told in English and the Dakota language by the renowned Dakota traditionalist and enhanced with music and nature recordings. Wilson's serene yet personable delivery is similar to Ella Jenkins, with whom she shares a talent for universalizing a story. My Relatives Say also features video content corresponding to Wilson's central themes. ~ Johnny Loftus

My Relatives Say album
$11.69 While the phenomenon of the country-bumpkin comedian is probably as old as comedy itself, the 1990s saw a surge of popularity for country comics like Rodney Carrington, Cledus T. Judd, and Jeff Foxworthy. Carrington's act is a combination of Foxworthy's redneck humor and Judd's biting country music satire. Accordingly, his two-disc GREATEST HITS collection is split down the middle between a "Stand-up" disc and a "Music" disc. In both his musical and verbal comedy routines, Carrington moves a step beyond many of his peers by adding an X-rated flavor to his work. Throughout GREATEST ...
| | Richard Pryor Anthology (1968-1992) CDs (2002)
My Relatives Say CD music
$10.89 Recorded between 1968 and 1992. Includes liner notes by Reggie Collins, Steve Pokorny, Walter Mosley.
Rhino's 2002 release The Anthology: 1968-1992 is essentially the highlights from their seminal 2000 box set, And It's Deep Too!, which contained the complete recordings (more or less) of Richard Pryor, the greatest comedian of his time and one of the great cultural forces of the 20th century. Since this is a clear case of recycling, it could be argued by some curmudgeons that there simply isn't a point behind this release, since it was all reissued. They're wrong, of course, since this not only does an excellent job of rounding up much of the greatest and best-known of his classic albums, but it provides a succinct, welcoming introduction to a large body of work -- something that simply couldn't be said about the lavish box set, no matter how great it is. Here, on the course of two discs (whose selections lean heavily on the breakthrough That Nigger's Crazy and Wanted/Richard Pryor Live in Concert), neophytes get a needed crash course in Pryor, not only through the great material, but with a terrific essay ...

The CD reissue of Napoleon XIV's The Second Coming contains the entirety of his 1966 album They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa! with a few cuts from his unreleased second LP, "For God's Sake, Stop the Feces!" (1968), and some new recordings from 1995. Even novelty fans may find the material too silly and unvarying, despite occasional highlights (such as ...

My Relatives Say CD music
$9.55 Is this hilarious? Well, that's debatable. But Willie isn't worried about the haters, as he explains in his introduction to Willie & His Hilarious Phone Pranks. "Well if that's your problem. You don't need to listen to no more, just turn your machine off, and keep that old frown on your ugly face." As for his comedy, Willie prefers a homey, conversational style quite the opposite from insult kings like the Jerky Boys. And even if the bits don't always pan out, his premises are definitely funny. ...

The haunting lyrics combined with Caitlin Jaeneās sultry voice could warm your skin on the coldest of days.Their sound is surprisingly imaginative and fresh in a time where itās hard to decipher one band from the next. After a few transitions with band members, Blue Hippo comes back with a renewed intensity on their latest EP āVolume 2.ā The title track, āSuperheroāsā lyrics purr a scenario of love and hurt that reward deeper analysis. This up and coming band has an almost indescribable ethereal feel that conjures up memories of passion we arenāt quite ready to forget."Written by Heather ShaferCheck out more photos from this show:http://derekbradphoto.blogspot.com/2009/07/blue-hippopotomus.htmlWritten by Heather Shafer, Photo by Derek Brad - Inspivia (Jul 16, 2009)BLUE HIPPOPOTAMUS: (named for the artifact of Ancient Egypt used for protection in the journey to the afterlife) is comprised of 3 established musicians who all met while touring in other bands.
