| | Give 'Em The Boot Vol. 3 CD
For Tim Armstrong of Rancid, the meeting point of punk and reggae isn't merely music, it's a way of life, and it continues to be the guiding philosophy of both his band and his record label, Hellcat Records. The third installment in Hellcat's budget-priced sampler series, Give 'Em the, Vol. 3 offers up plenty of fast-n-loud punk rock action with hot tracks from the Distillers, Dropkick Murphys, U.S. Bombs, Leftover Crack, the Nerve Agents, and Duane Peters and the Hunns (as you might expect, Rancid also drops by, as does Lars Frederiksen's solo project); a healthy side portion of roots-conscious reggae and ska from Hepcat, the Pietasters, King Django, and the Slackers; and a few cuts that have a foot in both camps from Mouthwash and the Gadjits. Give 'Em the Boot, Vol. 3 has a higher punk rock quotient than the first two installments in the series, and the compilers have opted not to juggle styles as they did on earlier albums (in short, if you just wanna rock, shut off your CD player after track 14, and cut 15 is where the roots-conscious listeners should set in), but if you're looking for quality sounds for either pogoing or easy skanking, Give 'Em the Boot, Vol. 3 offers a whole lot of value for a five spot. ~ Mark Deming

Give 'Em The Boot Vol. 3 album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew ...

$14.79 Chip Withrow is a teacher and musician who has lived, performed, and taught in Fort Myers for the last thee years. His musical journey began at a young age with guitar and piano lessons. With a natural love and talent for improvising, he gravitated toward jazz and blues, and for many years, piano was his main instrument. In his early adult years, he began to be influenced by folk artists like Bob Dylan and was drawn to the improvisational jamming and American-influenced sounds of the Grateful Dead and to the story-telling of artists like Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon. Working on his own, he became an accomplished guitar player. In Cincinnati, he played with several blue grass and folk acts in the early 1990s.During the same time, he left textbook publishing to become a teacher and found a true calling in inspiring hard-to-motivate students through the study and writing of poetry. He published a paper on the topic in a professional teaching journal in June 2000. Always challenged and delighted by his students, Withrow has devoted himself to sharing the joy of learning with young people. He teaches currently at Ida S. Baker High School in Cape Coral, Florida. After the birth of his daughter Josie in 2002, Withrow experienced a creative reawakening and began to actively write songs in addition to performing. His move to his “true home” in Fort Myers further inspired his work. The songs he wrote for adults during that time often had serious themes and painstakingly crafted stories.Always known for his lighter side, Withrow tried his hand at some children’s songs with some inspiration from Josie. He discovered a natural talent and a new way to share the joy he finds in life. The release of his first CD, Everyday Things, is a celebration of that joy and the journey Withrow has taken to discover his calling writing folk music for kids and families. The Story Behind ...
