While there's more than one greatest hits collection from manic depression's pop bard Morrissey, this 2001 release is easily the definitive overview of the one-time Smiths frontman's solo career. Starting from late-1980s hits like the deceptively sunny "Everyday is Like Sunday," through the underrated '97 hit "Alma Matters," and including his modern rock number-ones "Tomorrow" and "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get," there's nary an omission on this thorough collection (well, maybe "Picadilly Palare," but it's hard to please everyone).
'The Best of Morrissey' (Rhino/Warner Archives) is packed with 21 of his biggest U.S. & U.K. tracks. Features 2 rare tracks, 'Lost' & 'Tomorrow', a deluxe booklet which includes lyrics to each song & tons of rare pics. Moz fans note - produced with Morrissey's blessing.

Very delightful mix of tracks.Truly his best ones included here.Was a bit disappointed not to see "seasick yet still docked" on this listing, but officially satisfying overall-definitely worth the price!

Neilson Hubbard has the voice of a fragile and broken singer/songwriter. Going down the road of people like Elliott Smith and, to a lesser extent, Soul Asylum, the singer starts by questioning the future in "Stars." It's a poignant opener that has lovely harmonies from Cathy Horne. It has a certain British pop flavor, courtesy of the Beatles-like vocals that soar as it concludes. "You'll Be There" is a gorgeous duet that suggests a young Michael Penn as a starting point.
