This DVD features a collaboration between filmmaker Jem Cohen and the Washington D.C. band Fugazi, covering the 10 year period of 1987-1996. Far from a traditional documentary, this is a musical document; a portrait of musicians at work. The project mixes sync-sound, 16mm. Super-8 video and a wide range of archival formats, including concert footage, studio sessions practice, touring, interviews and portraits of audience emembers from around the country. Special DVD features include 3 extra live tracks and 2 short films by Jem Cohen. Washington, D.C. hardcore punk band Fugazi are the true innovators who are revered by young iconoclasts everywhere. Vocalist-guitarist Ian MacKaye, who also fronted the seminal punk band Minor Threat, is an ideological hero to many--his anti-major label stance and belief in a DIY, independent music scene continues to be an inspiration. Since their formation in 1987, Fugazi's remarkable "career" has been tracked on film by photographer-turned-filmmaker Jem Cohen, himself part of the local punk scene. INSTRUMENT is a collection of Cohen and Fugazi's audiovisual collaborations; shot over a period of 10 years on Super 8, 16mm, and video, the film is a visually stunning compilation of concerts, landscapes, interviews, and studio footage. Instrument Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Very Interesting This is a must-have for any Fugazi fan. It is kinda slow, but it is after all, a documentary. I really love this dvd and considered it a highlight of my dvd collection. I think anyone who has ever claimed to like punk should watch this dvd. The Truth in Rock This movie not only depicts the truth in Fugazi, but it also shows the real truth in rock music. Much like the dichotomy of sheer boredom and uncontrollable intensity experienced in war, Instrument reveals the war-like battle to keep rock real, sincere, and raw, as well as the downtimes. Instrument follows the band through the politic rallies, the club concerts, the recording studios, and the media interviews. Humor, intensity, anger, frustration, relief, relaxation: this movie is the true life of Fugazi, the true life of a band that seeks to keep rock music real. Instrument film
$9.55 Fugazi's third album, STEADY DIET OF NOTHING, finds the Washington D.C. quartet in a restless mood. Although the group sticks to its typically incisive political and social commentary with its lyrics, the band's sound here is clearly in transition, with the bouncy grooves of earlier albums being replaced at times by complex rhythms and droning guitars. The latter is prevalent on the opening "Exit Only," which highlights buzzing feedback and Guy Picciotto's raspy vocals, and "Reclamation," which takes anthemic guitar riffs and Ian MacKaye's unmistakable voice and anchors them in dub-like bass and drums, courtesy of Joe Lally and Brendan Canty, respectively.
Elsewhere, the instrumental "Steady Diet" locks into tight, up-tempo rhythms, followed by the spare, melancholy "Long Division." Here MacKaye's ...
| | Steelheart CD (1991)
Instrument review
$6.49 Possessing metal pipes like few before him, leonine Steelheart yelper Michael Matijevic scarred the airwaves forever when he hammered the simply unmatchable chorus of the hairball "I'll Never Let You Go": ludicrous and sublime, akin to Whitney Houston hitting the hot spot in "I Will Always Love You." The opening strands of "Everybody Loves Eileen" bring Ratt out of the cellar before the cut curls into a pop n' fresh roller coaster ride. The remainders on this ridiculous dish are also overlong examples of excess but not as memorable, paying homage to Whitesnake and other flailing stylistic ventures. "I'll Never Let You Go" is available on some quality collections and no aficionado of poodle pomp should let that song go, otherwise leave Steelheart in peace with the music it helped lay to rest. ~ Doug Stone
Possessing metal pipes like few before him, the leonine Steelheart yelper Michael Matijevic scarred the airwaves forever when he hammered the simply unmatchable chorus of the hairball "I'll Never Let You Go." | | Modest Mouse Lonesome Crowded West CD (1997)
Instrument DVD
$10.09 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
Though echoes of the Minutemen and Nirvana, along with slightly larger ensembles such as Pavement and Thrush Hermit can be heard, Modest Mouse puts an entirely new twist on the post-punk power trio concept. The band eschews the camouflage of noise, effects and attitude employed by many of their indie rock peers to create ironic distance. Instead, they strictly rely on inventive, surprising songwriting and low-key-but-committed performance to lay their claim as innovators and inheritors of the guitar-bass-drums tradition.
Even though Modest Mouse's stylistic variations (rock-funk, edgy, brittle pop) often reach back to the American underground boom of the early eighties where the band's roots lie, they are never less than forward-looking. THE LONESOME CROWDED WEST ...

| | Sonic Youth - Corporate Ghost: The Videos 1990-2002 DVD (1990)
Instrument video
$12.05 The career of Sonic Youth has seen them sculpt an inimitable sound, capable of satisfying both avant garde, and mainstream alternative rock tastes. Detuning their guitars to create an atonal noise has paid interesting dividends for the band, and after building an illustrious back catalogue on the indie scene, the group settled on major label DGC in 1990. This compilation of their video work charters the latter period of the band, beginning with visual interpretations of every track from the album "Goo." Subsequent records spawned further adventures in the video field, and these efforts are also included here. Directors include famous names such as Todd Haynes and Spike Jonze, while guests ranging from Chuck D of Public Enemy, to former child star Macaulay Culkin, appear in the videos. Tracks featured include "Kool Thing," "Dirty Boots," "100%," and many others.
Their first-time collection of their videos on DVD will blow their fans' minds away! This DVD features 23 videos from the Goo album ...

| | Yugo The Negotiator - Complete Collection DVDs (2004)
Instrument review
$26.05 Unlike the sci-fi or fantastical elements found in the majority of anime released in the West, YUGO THE NEGOTIATOR is grounded firmly in reality. Yugo Beppu is a master at striking a deal, regardless of who is on the other side of the table. Terrorists, criminals, kidnappers--he's dealt with them all using his multiple language skills and sharp psychology. This collection includes the complete episodes of Yugo's exploits in Pakistan and Russia, where his wits are the only weapons he can use to get the people he's been hired to free out of danger. Based on the manga by Shinji Makari and Shu Akana, this is a globetrotting anime adventure in which the characters rely on their intelligence rather than mechanized battle armor.
Based upon the original manga by Shinji Makari and Shu Akana, Yugo the Negotiator breaks into a fresh new genre of anime by featuring a highly realistic storyline and setting. Sometimes, a strong wit and a sharp tongue are the ...
