Recorded between 1973 and 1977. Includes liner notes by David Nathan.
The Best of Normon Connors, on the Sequel imprint, is very closely allied to the 1997 ten-track comp titled The Encore Collection. This collection includes the bulk of his mid-'70s urban crossover hits for Buddah Records, including "Valentine Love," "We Both Need Each Other," "You Are My Starship," "Betcha By Golly, Wow," and "Once I've Been There." This set goes four tracks deeper than the former one did. It does include a cut from 1974's Slewfoot, "Mother of the Future," two from 1978's This Is Your Life, "Captain Connors" and "Butterfly," and "Kingston" from 1979's Invitation. Therefore, while it does go deeper and may satisfy casual listeners, it still leaves off material from the seminal albums that helped Connors create his unique meld of funk, jazz, and soul, leaving listeners with yet another best-of collection that is not definitive or truly representational. ~ Thom Jurek

Classic of Classics If you're any type of musical connoisseur who appreciates talented musicians and singers, this cd won't disappoint. I was in college in the 70's which was an era of the biggest musical talent explosion of my lifetime. This has the classic ballads, "Valentine Love" with Michael Henderson and "Betcha By Golly Wow" with Phyllis Hyman. If you know how to "ballroom" (Detroit term), these are the cuts they played after the Prince, Parlaiment, Rick James, etc.--a nice slow cut so you could get to know someone a little closer.
Kick back and listen. You're sure to enjoy! Submitted by Killa G (or David E.) (Jackson, MI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Best Of Norman Connors CD music
$9.85 Slim Bawb & Gator Bait play “swampgrass” music. Their debut CD “Ghost Dawg” came out April 2006. Slim Bawb is Bob Pearce leader/songwriter for the Sacramento based band “The Beer Dawgs” for the past 20 years. Slim Bawb plays banjo, reso-guitar, mandolin & mojo stomp. Gator Bait are Andrew Browne: Double Bass & Olen Dillingham: Fiddle & mandolin. The Newest Gator is Steve Stizzo: Accordion. Andrew is a former “Beer Dawg” & Olen as well as Slim Bawb was born on January 8th (that’s right, Elvis’s birthday!) Steve Stizzo plays in the popular Northern California band “Mumbo Gumbo”& is also the unofficial mayor of Roseville. Their newest CD “BEWARE!” is out now. Check “em out Jack. Our good buddy slim bawb has out done hisself agin. Old slim bawb got together a passel of the usual suspects, and put out two CDs that are so darn good, they're illegal in states without medicinal marijuana. If you're under thirty, and you only have one or two tattoos, you probably better approach these CDs with caution. This music is for real men and women. The kind who've been around the block enough to round the corners. One CD has a good selection of original blues tunes, Beer Dawgs: Voodoo & Tattoo On this CD I give my nod to ``Turn of the Screw'' because I feel slim bawb's pain. The other CD is filled with original swampgrass music, slim bawb & gator bait: BEWARE! I reckon my favorite off this CD is ``When the Hurtin' Begins''. I love the line, ``Then she left me, and you're still gone''; but you gotta hear old slim bawb sing it.But I'm not sure what slim bawb does is actually singing. Have you ever belched right when you was talkin'? And your mouth fills with gas, and your nose burns somethin' terrible. And no one can understand what you just said. slim bawb's singing ...
