| | Very Best Of Harry Belafonte CD Harry Belafonte Discography of CDs
Recorded between 1952 & 1961. Includes liner notes by Joseph F. Laredo.
Released in 2001, this 22-track compilation presents many of the finest 1950s and early-'60s recordings by the "King of Calypso," Harry Belafonte. Although the soulful Jamaican-born singer/actor ventured into various musical genres, the set remains largely focused on Belafonte's island-themed pop songs, most notably the boisterous "Day-O (Banana Boat)" and the lilting "Jamaica Farewell." There are occasional exceptions, though, such as his elegant take on Leadbelly's blues classic "Cotton Fields." For those wanting only one Belafonte disc in their music collection, this is it.
Digitally remastered by Mike Harty & Bill Lacey.

Very Best Of Harry Belafonte CD music
$18.79 This CD contains B.B. King's first ABC-Paramount studio efforts -- Mr. Blues (1962) and Confessin' the Blues (1965), respectively. While there are inevitable similarities between the projects, offering them back-to-back allows listeners an acute sense of King's rapid maturation and development during what was by all accounts the nexus of the guitarist/vocalist's career. The dozen-song Mr. Blues was a haphazard start for King with the contents taken from three different recording sessions in a 13-month period (March 1, 1962 through April 11, 1963). Based on the results, ...
| | Reverend Gary Davis Pure Religion & Bad Company CD (1957)
Very Best Of Harry Belafonte music CDs
$13.39 This Rev. Gary Davis release has been issued throughout the world under a bevy of names and should not be confused with the Prestige disc simply titled Pure Religion. These recordings are notable for both their sacred and secular nature. Equally as interesting is the wide range of performance styles that the Reverend incorporates throughout this long-player -- the first full-length disc to do so. Among them are the rarely displayed preachin' blues of "Bad Company," "Runnin' to the Judgement," and "Pure Religion." Notable are the spoken introductions or talkin' blues recitation techniques, as well as the more obvious and overtly religious themes. Davis took his commitment to the Lord seriously and had become an ordained minister ...
