(1 Customer Review)
Metro's 2001 compilation Espionage: The Very Best of the James Taylor Quartet collects much of the best of the James Taylor Quartet's recordings from the early '90s, capturing their stylishly funky acid jazz quite well. There are two covers of Booker T. & the MG's -- "Green Onions" and "Be My Girl" -- some '60s and '70s film and TV covers ("Mission Impossible," "Blow Up," "Theme from Dirty Harry," "Starsky and Hutch") and those two extremes pretty much capture what the quartet sounds like: funky soul given a cinematic spin. This well-chosen, well-annotated collection provides a good introduction to their world. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Espionage: The Very Best Of The James Taylor Quartet album
$13.35 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary ...

Espionage: The Very Best Of The James Taylor Quartet songs
$9.59 How a good-looking Jewish boy from Brooklyn discovered the secret of success in an updated form of mariachi music is perhaps beyond our scope. Then again, it might not be such a mystery after all. Aside from the obvious example of exotica, much easy listening depends upon more than a touch of ethnicity to maintain its musical roots. What Herb Alpert found in Mexican street bands was a previously untapped source of south-of-the-border melody and rhythm. With its unlikely combination of Alpert's cool Chet Baker-like trumpet and the blocky cadences of a marching band, the Tijuana Brass produced a lively, colorful mix that managed to appeal to hips and squares alike.
WHIPPED CREAM & OTHER DELIGHTS was Herb Albert's most successful album, helped--no doubt--by its highly provocative cover art. The tunes are mostly ...

Espionage: The Very Best Of The James Taylor Quartet album
$8.65 Escape from Cape Coma is the debut of Twisted Method, a young Florida quartet determined to carve out a nu-metal niche of its own. Lyrically, the album revolves around the F word. Heavily treated production, animalistic screams, and incessant, pounding, grating rhythms broken only by the occasional attempt at Linkin Park-style balladry ("Awkward Silence," "Shine") finish out the equation. Love Slipknot? Miss Drowning Pool? Escape from Cape Coma is for you. As the story goes, MCA signed Twisted Method on the strength of the band's showcase alone, and without even a demo tape, the boys found themselves in an L.A. studio recording their debut. If it's even partially true, the story promises a strong set from the band at Ozzfest. Tracks like "Panic," "Reach," and "Inside Out" are certainly full of rage, and should offer loud rock fans some cheap headbanging thrills. ~ Johnny Loftus

Espionage: The Very Best Of The James Taylor Quartet songs
$12.29 John Callahan (born during July of 1951 in Portland, Oregon), is a cartoonist noted for dealing with macabre subjects or physical disabilities, maiming and dismemberment. Rendered quadriplegic by an automobile accident, Callahan draws his cartoons by clutching a pen between both hands. His artistic style is simplistic and often rough, though still legible and humorous. It has been likened to that of William Steig, James Thurber, and Ben Wicks. Callahan's cartoons deal with subjects often considered taboo. His black humor may be exemplified by the title of his "quasi-memoire", Will the Real John Callahan Please Stand Up?. The subject matter and treatment of his cartoons shares something with the work of Charles Addams and Gahan Wilson although it is much more aggressively and brutally shocking and twisted than even the Playboy ...
