Black & White; Standard Screen The Phantom lives deep in the recesses of the Paris Opera House, well hidden from cruel and prying eyes. But when he falls in love with the beauteous Christine Dane, he becomes aware of his intense loneliness; in desperation, the Phantom kidnaps his love and carries her back to his secret lair. Assuring Christine that he will never harm her, he asks only one thing: that she never remove his mask. Lon Chaney, "Man of a Thousand Faces," stars in this silent horror classic. In the film, based on Gaston Leroux's timeless novel, a disfigured, catacomb-dwelling musician (Chaney) terrorizes the Paris Opera House while attempting to turn a pretty chorus girl (Mary Philbin) into a star. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1998. Phantom Of The Opera Reviews: "...Shivers still crawl up spines." -- Rating: A

Phantom Of The Opera Video Phantom Of The Opera Movie Review Double dvd Set Includes 1925 & 1929 Versions! A horror classic is made even better with Image's "Milestone Collection" of The Phantom Of The Opera. You get the original un-restored 1925 version of The Phantom Of The Opera (disc 2) and the 1929 restored version. As far as picture quality goes the 1929 version is the better of the two, but it does have it's flaws. The horrifying "unmasking" scene is quite blurred, something that should have been cleared up before Image released it commercially. The rest of the scenes are of pretty much of the highest quality for a film this old. Also, music has been added to this silent film which does add to it's appeal. The 1925 version is as expected, grainy and scratchy but afterall this is an eighty year old un-restored film so I expected the picture quality to be poor. Lon Chaney is magnificent as he portrays The Phantom, a horrifying disfigured and sad man who has fallen in love with opera singer Christine Dane (Mary Philbin) and who lives in the catacombs far beneath the Paris Opera House. If there's one classic horror film you buy this should be it. Submitted by B.C. ("Hallandale Beach,Fl.,USA") Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Phantom Of The Opera film
$11.29 Perhaps the most memorable film about the aftermath of World War II, THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES unfolds with the homecoming of three veterans to the same small town. The leads all touch emotional truths: Myrna Loy seems able to express longing, joy, fear and surprise--mostly with her back turned--in a particularly poignant welcome home. The movie never glosses over the reality of altered lives and the inability to communicate the experience of war on the front lines or the home front. A landmark achievement. WWII vet Harold Russell, who lost his hands in the war, is the only person to win two Oscars for the same role, Best Supporting Actor and a special Oscar "for bringing hope and courage to his fellow veterans through his appearance."

Phantom Of The Opera review
$16.09 This movie still sets the standard for what musicals should be. The larger-than-life career of stage genius Florenz Ziegfeld is aptly celebrated in this marvelous musical biography. As if the big story and all-star cast weren't enough, they threw in such unforgettable tunes as "If You Knew Susie," "Shine on Harvest Moon," and "A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody."

Lana Turner, Hedy Lamarr and Judy Garland play the respective three trying for stardom in this sumptuous extravaganza. James Stewart adds to the star wattage, playing the jilted truck-driving beau of Turner's footlight diva. | | Little Caesar DVD (1930) Full Frame; Subtitled
Phantom Of The Opera video
$14.85 With its focus on character flaws instead of plot devices, LITTLE CAESAR is the mother of the modern gangster flick. Edward G. Robinson stars as Enrico Bandelli in the role that made him a household name. Bandelli moves to the big city with partner in crime Joe Massara (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) and becomes a member of Sam Vettori's Mafia gang. In spite of the urgings of pretty girl Olga Strassoff (Glenda Farell) to quit the mob, Rico quickly becomes the head of the Vettori gang and with a couple of quick kills scares mob boss Arnie Lorch back to Detroit. Bandelli, dubbed Little Caesar by the press, is known as a boss in his own right, but what goes up must come down in this tale of excessive hubris. At the time of its release, the stacatto sound design for LITTLE CAESAR was leagues ahead of its early talkie contemporaries. But what keeps the film alive is the fine script and the startling performance from Edward G. Robinson.
Gangster classic involving a small-time hood who becomes a mob big shot. Director: Mervyn Le Roy, Edward Robinson, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.
| | Family Ties - The Complete Second Season DVDs (1983) Full Frame
Phantom Of The Opera film
$22.49 Michael J. Fox catapulted into superstardom--and created one of the most beloved television characters of all time--in the 1980s sitcom FAMILY TIES. Created by TV impresario Gary David Goldberg (LOU GRANT, THE BOB NEWHART SHOW), the series offered a clever take on the generation gap through the family interactions of two former '60s hippies, public-television producer Steven Keaton (Michael Gross) and his architect wife, Elyse (Meredith Baxter), struggling to retain their leftist ideals while raising three radically divergent children in suburban Columbus, Ohio: tomboy Jennifer (Tina Yothers); ditzy mallrat Mallory (Justine Bateman); and, most notably, Wall Street Journal-reading young Republican Alex P. Keaton (Fox), who served as the series' main comedic foil. A fun and warmhearted throwback to the greed-is-good decade, FAMILY TIES is resurrected in this collection of the series' second season.

| | People Will Talk DVD (1951)
Phantom Of The Opera video
$9.69 A lovely movie featuring Cary Grant in one of his more inscrutable roles as an angel of mercy to the sick, recalling his work in THE BISHOP'S WIFE. PEOPLE WILL TALK focuses on Dr. Praetorius, a nontraditional doctor whose patients and medical students love him, while his success spurs the jealousy of fellow doctors, including teaching rival Shunderson. Content with his life, the doctor is thrown a curve ball when a beautiful but unmarried mother-to-be confirms her pregnancy at his clinic, then tries to shoot herself to avoid shaming her father. Taking unconventional healing a step farther, Praetorius marries her; their happiness is disrupted when Shunderson's mysterious past is brought into the light, perhaps to topple Praetorius's reputation and career. Weaving in the theme that doctors should treat the whole person, not only the disease, PEOPLE WILL TALK graces the pantheon of comic, romantic dramas; it is based on the play DR. PRAETORIUS, by Curt Goetz.
