One of the brightest stars to emerge from the Philadelphia nu-soul scene that spawned Erykah Badu, The Roots and Bilal is poet/vocalist Jill Scott. Riding the momentum of her 2000 debut WHO IS JILL SCOTT?, this Pennsylvannia native's sophomore bow is EXPERIENCE: JILL SCOTT 826+, a 2-CD outing of live performances and a handful of studio cuts. Backed by her fabulous 9-piece Fatback Taffy, Scott casts aside the more mannered versions of much-loved songs like "Slowly Surely" and "Getting' In The Way" and infuses them with breathy arrangements that unwind over unstoppable grooves and shimmering nuances.
Affable and loquacious, Scott's down-home on-stage patter is as engaging as her music. When she's not playfully dogging her image as a positive goody-two shoes within the intro to "It's Love," she's discussing pointed observations of a scantily clad teen at a bus stop leading into the sinewy 11-minute mix of sensuality and exploitation that defines "Thickness." New studio cuts like the ultra-funky "Gimme" and her lo-fi hip-hop Common duet "High Post Brotha" are equally potent and show Ms. Scott is only getting started down the road to a legendary music career.
Includes liner notes by Jill Scott, Steve McKeever.

JILL SCOTT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Jill's voice is majestic, like the humming of a stream of water running through a grassy meadow. She is the most talented artist I know. This is "true" music at its greatest. Submitted by a reviewer (selma, al,usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Very Refreshing! This is one of the best CD's I have heard all year! It is so refreshing to hear a group with such immense talent and well-rehearsed material, executing some extremely difficult arrangements. The musicianship is amazing. . .and to think, this is a live CD!
Jill is one of the most talented singers on the market today. Her range, intonation, tone, timbre, and diversity of vocal style is comparable and even reminiscent at times of many old jazz vocal masters with a Gospel depth and soul. Her lyric and poetry are very intelligent and inspiring. She comes across as a very real and sincere talent and should be part of any audiophile’s collection--especially if you are a fan of R&B and Hip-hop. $9.09 Recorded between 1992 & 1996. Includes liner notes by Brantley Bardin.
Belly arrived at a strange time for alternative rock. Prior to the early 1993 release of their debut, Star, they had released a series of critically acclaimed U.K. EPs that balanced the shimmering, otherworldly quality of Throwing Muses with an increased sense of songcraft from ex-Muse/Breeder Tanya Donelly -- dream pop that really emphasized the pop, while adding emotional undercurrents that could shift from sweetness to haunting within one song. Star, like the EPs, captured this well, and since it arrived when all things alt-rock had a shot at the charts, they actually had a gold album and a Billboard hit with "Feed the Tree." This led to semistardom -- not nearly as big as Kurt-n-Courtney or Eddie, nor as gossip-worthy as Evan-n-Juliana, but to a lot of appearances at festivals and even the cover of Rolling Stone, which meant that they wanted to broaden their audience and sound with their second album, the Glyn Johns-produced King. Though the selected songs were ...
