Danny Corkill, Diane Keaton, Jennifer Dundas, Matthew Modine, Mel Gibson, Trini Alvarado - Director: Gillian Armstrong Set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1901, this drama depicts a true story that shocked contemporary society.
Kate Soffel is a warden's wife so full of Christian values that she regularly visits her husband's jail, handing out bibles and attempting to reform the convicts. But Ed Biddle, a rather seductive young man who claims he's been wrongly convicted of murder, leads the repressed Mrs. Soffel into temptation. She decides to help him and his brother escape, and even though it complicates their getaway and puts them at greater risk, Ed persuades Kate to run away with them to Canada. A woman who distributes Bibles to prison inmates has an affair with one of them, and later helps him to escape. Set in Pittsburgh during the turn of the century. This was Australian director Gillian Armstrong's first American film.
Shot on location in the U.S. and Canada. Color by Metrocolor.

This Masterpiece Theatre production is the story of one aspect of the writer's life that was more tragic than anything depicted in his adventure stories. Daniel Radcliffe takes off Harry Potter's robes to star in this serious drama.

THE DUDE RANGER: George O'Brien stars in this rousing western as Ernest Selby, a city boy from back east who inherits a cattle ranch infested with rustlers. He rides out intending to sell the place, but sticks around to get to the bottom of things when he falls for Anne (Irene Hervey), the lovely daughter of ranch foreman Sam Hepburn (Henry Hall). Matters get more complicated when Ernest suspects Sam is behind the rustling. He needs to do some serious fighting and detective work to catch the crooks, and in the process turns from city slicker to bona fide western hero.
