| | George Jones Definitive Country Collection CD - Import George Jones Discography of CDs
This 20 track collection of country greats by legendary vocalist George Jones features his hit "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and two duets with his country star Tammy Wynette.
Columbia's George Jones Definitive Country Collection pales in comparison to Mercury's Definitive Collection 1955-1962 anthology, but country jukebox, slow dance classics like "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "Nothing Ever Hurt Me (Half as Bad as Losing You)," as well as duets with ex-wife Tammy Wynette "Were Gonna Hold On," "We Loved It Away'" and "We Can Make It," help keep this 20-track overview fluid (like a tear in your beer) for the duration. ~ James Christopher Monger
20 track collection features the very best material the country legend recorded for the Epic label. Highlights include 3 duets with ex-wife Tammy Wynette, 'Were Gonna Hold On', 'We Loved It Away' & 'We Can Make It'. Standard jewelcase. 2001release. $12.25 If you're a country artist who had a handful of hits in the '50s and '60s, there's an excellent chance someone has persuaded you to re-record your hits for another label so you can earn a new payday from the old material, and the new label has a proven commodity in their catalog. Ray Price is only one of the dozens of noteworthy acts who've taken the bait and re-cut their hits, and The Classic Songs of Ray Price features 18 tunes, most major hits for Price in the past, that the Cherokee Cowboy has recorded anew with a band of Nashville session ...

Definitive Country Collection CD music
$14.29 This album came about after an August 1992 concert commemorating the 15th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley. McDowell, who in addition to being a country star had emulated Elvis for television soundtracks, asked Scotty Moore, D.J. Fontana, and the Jordanaires -- all of whom had played on Presley's early recordings -- if they wanted to do a recording project. A Tribute to the King was the result. Perhaps if popular music was a math equation, this would be the formula for the best possible emulation of Presley in the singer's absence: the most competent Elvis soundalike, teamed with the surviving musicians most important to supporting Presley on record. McDowell sounds more like Elvis than just about any lounge imitator. These are faithful covers of many of the hits from Elvis' early career, from "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Love Me Tender" to the best of his early-'60s tracks, like "His Latest Flame (Marie's the Name)" and "(You're The) Devil in Disguise." McDowell only covers songs from Presley's first decade, feeling (and he has a strong argument) that this was Elvis' good period. The backing is agreeably competent, the arrangements sometimes straight-ahead and sometimes disagreeably slicked-up with contemporary production. The two non-Elvis-identified songs are a remake of McDowell's 1977 tribute hit, "The King Is Gone," and another Presley-inspired tribute, "Tupelo's Too Far." ~ Richie Unterberger
