| | Definitive Ray Charles CD - Import Ray Charles Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
This 46-track release by soul pioneer Ray Charles includes "I've Got A Woman,' "Mess Around," "Drown In My Own Tears," and "Lonely Avenue."
Exclusive import-only two CD release, the first time any collection has surfaced that combines the chart-topping hits from his Atlantic and ABC-Paramount years into one package. This means that you get the Genius's hits from 1953's 'Mess Around' right through his golden R&B Atlantic era ('I've Got a Woman', 'Drown in My Own Tears', 'Hallelujah I Love Her So', 'I Believe To My Soul', "What'd I Say" amongst others) alongside tracks that were not only massive worldwide hits but helped redefine popular music: 'Georgia on My Mind', 'Hit The Road Jack', 'Unchain My Heart', 'I Can't Stop Loving You' and 'You Don't Know Me' This compilation thins out after the classic 'In The Heat of the Night', as well it should, his latter-day duets with the Blues Brothers and Willie Nelson tidying thing up nicely. Genius plus compilation good taste: an unbeatable combination. Warner. | | Neil Young Sleeps With Angels CDs (1994)
Definitive Ray Charles CD music
$8.69 SLEEPS WITH ANGELS was nominated for a 1995 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
Judging by the regard with which Neil Young is embraced by contemporary bands, it's clear that this rocker retained his youthful crankiness and experimental verve--willfully oblivious to popular fashions. Like John Mellencamp's DANCE NAKED, Young's SLEEPS WITH ANGELS has the mythic feel and smell of vintage, crawl-under-the-car and change-the-oil ...
| | Deep Purple Machine Head CDs (1972) Remastered; Deluxe Edition
Definitive Ray Charles music CDs
$10.75 This package contains the original MACHINE HEAD plus quadrophonic mixes of 2 songs on one disc, MACHINE HEAD remixed by Roger Glover in 1998, and a 28 page booklet.
A probable contender for one of hard rock's "all-time most influential albums," Deep Purple's MACHINE HEAD has all the markings of a heavy classic. It was here that the band's combination of amped-up blues, progressive instrumental prowess, screaming guitars, and thunderous rhythms was crystallized for the ages, helping to lay the foundation for hard rock and heavy metal throughout the '70s, ...

| | Deep Purple Who Do We Think We Are? CD (1973) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Definitive Ray Charles CD music
$10.45 After establishing itself as a hard-rock giant, thanks to endless touring and the release of such milestone records as MACHINE HEAD and IN ROCK, Deep Purple was in a state of turmoil when it went into the studio to record 1972's WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE? Despite all the infighting, the band pulled together long enough to record seven tracks that only bolstered the band's reputation.
The best-known song, "Woman From Tokyo," boasted a riff as memorable as the one that defined "Smoke on the Water" and was later admitted by Ritchie Blackmore to have been cribbed from Eric Clapton's "Cat Squirrel." Although Blackmore's always-impressive riffing stands out on such songs as "Mary Long" and "Place in Line," this album also spotlights how far Jon Lord's contributions on organ went toward defining the band's sound. Lord's mastery was such that ...

| | Sinners And Saints (1926-1931) CD (1994)
Definitive Ray Charles songs
$13.35 Document's Sinners and Saints (1926-1931) presents the complete recorded works of nine artists and groups, whose combined repertoires and performance styles serve as a brief but fascinating lesson in the history of black music, expanding common conceptions of the musical continuum that created the blues. The CD presents minstrel and medicine show material, religious songs, two work songs, a few so-called "blues," and a bad man blues ballad, exhibiting a wide scope of black musical traditions dating back to the 19th century and still in circulation during the 1920s and '30s. The performers not only represent a variety of genres, but demonstrate highly individualized styles that reflect their own personal aesthetics as much as any traditional form. The tones of their offerings range from the bizarre and the mirthful to the plaintive and deeply spiritual; the total effect of the album is hilarious, dark, and genuinely moving. Of the artists collected here, only Pink Anderson would record again after the 1930s, producing three albums with his "rediscovery" in the '60s. Most of the performers on this compilation recorded two sides apiece, appearing in a studio for only one day of their lives; Freeman Stowers and the Pink Anderson-Simmie Dooley team have four tracks each, and the miraculous Nugrape Twins are blessed with six. Stowers performs two harmonica blues numbers, infusing one with a knockout, if grating, impersonation of a train, shrieking underneath the strains of his harp to simulate the roaring locomotive's whistle. In two other tracks, he abandons the instrument altogether for vocal imitations of animals, creating a surreal listening experience that ...
