Essentially a work by Lars Eric Mattsson, this disc received a lot of attention for featuring the work of Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Planet X, Alice Cooper). Unfortunately Sherinian's presence is limited to two keyboard solos and does little to elevate the album beyond the mundane. It's not so much a factor of the musicianship and songwriting as it is the production. Indeed, the album really feels like it was recorded in someone's basement. The flat texture unfortunately reduces the music (good progressive rock/prog metal compositions) into something that feels quite boring. That is a pity, because this could have been a great album. ~ Gary Hill
Condition Red mixes progressive metal with hard rock, neoclassical and fusion. The album contains eight long-form tracks, of which three ("Bach On The Streets Again", "Lighthouse", "Final Words") are all instrumental. Complex arrangements with symphonic orchestra and full blast solos from some of todays greatest musicians are taken to a new level on this concept album. Alex Masi, Derek Sherinian and Lars Eric Mattsson need no further introduction and the newcomers have no problem fitting in. Condition Red was written in late 1999 and recorded between January and April 2000. The band explores and develops new ground rather than following in the steps of others, and its complicated rhythms and arrangements are not like any other releases that we know of. Ella Grussner's violin and vocals are an essential part of this project, as well as the two amazing keyboardists, Derek Sherinian, who is well known for his work with Dream Theater, Planet X, Playtupus and Alice Cooper, and newcomer Alexander King. Music for people with open minds.

Condition Red album
$15.65 The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next quarter century, the only sure-fire consensus would probably have been "well, anyone but Megadeth!" And yet, 12 studio albums and 150-plus songs later -- more than any of the other three have managed -- that's exactly what's ...

| | Megadeth Peace Sells... But Who's Buying CD (1986) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Condition Red album
$9.99 Guitarist Dave Mustaine was an original member of thrash-pioneers Metallica. But he was booted from the band during the recording of that band's debut album, KILL 'EM ALL. Instead of moping around, Mustaine returned to California and immediately formed another group--Megadeth. He promised his fans that the new outfit would be faster and more lethal than his former band, and Megadeth's 1985 debut, KILLING IS MY BUSINESS, AND BUSINESS IS GOOD, made good on this threat. Megadeth and Metallica duked it out in the music press, but both acts thrived. In 1986, each released its finest record, Metallica's MASTER OF PUPPETS and Megadeth's PEACE SELLS...BUT WHO'S BUYING?
While Metallica initially shunned MTV, Megadeth used the video format to its advantage--becoming the first thrash band to do so. Both "Wake Up Dead" and the anthemic title track received constant play on MTV's HEAVY METAL HOUR; the latter song's brief bass intro was even used as the theme to MTV news in the early-'90s. Tracks such as "The Conjuring," "Devil's Island," "Good Mourning/Black ...
| | Exodus Bonded By Blood CD (1985)
Condition Red CD music
$7.85 Had it been released immediately after it was recorded in 1984, Exodus' Bonded by Blood might be regarded today alongside Metallica's Kill 'em All as one of the landmark albums responsible for launching the thrash metal wave. But by the time it finally hit the streets more than a year later due to numerous record company-related difficulties, the genre the band helped spawn had evolved at an alarming rate (again, largely thanks to the unstoppable Metallica) and Exodus were left to wonder what kind of impact they may have had without these setbacks. Opening with the mind-blowing power of title track, the band immediately pummels through a number of astounding thrashers, including "And Then There Were None" and, perhaps their best well-known track, "A Lesson in Violence" -- a veritable handbook for thrash etiquette. Though less enduring, "Metal Command" is one of the band's most fully realized compositions and leads the way into concert the fave "Piranha," which may sound a tad dated, or charmingly naïve depending on the listener. ...
| | Paul Barbarin Jazz At Preservation Hall 3/Here Is Chris Barber CD (2000)
Condition Red music CDs
$10.59 Paul Barbarin & His Jazz Band: Paul Barbarin (drums); Ernie Cagnolatti (trumpet); Waldren "Frog" Joseph (trombone); Louis Cottrell (clarinet);
Emanuel Sayles (banjo); Lester Santiago (piano); Placide Adams (bass).
Both of these sessions are from the Atlantic vaults and have been paired up and reissued on CD by Collectables. Along with their respective bands, both Paul Barbarin and Chris Barber provide authentic New Orleans jazz performed at Preservation Hall in 1963. While these musicians were getting on in age, that didn't stop them from vigorous playing. This is authentic Crescent City jazz, played by some of the original practitioners, and it shows, especially in the traditional tunes "Slide Frog Slide," "Nobody Knows the Way I Feel This Morning," and "Preservation Blues." On the other hand, trombonist Chris Barber and his band from England attempt Dixieland, ...
| | Crisis Like Sheep Led To Slaughter CD (2004)
Condition Red songs
$6.35 Cult art metal band Crisis finally returned to activity in 2004 with their fourth album, Like Sheep Led to Slaughter, 11 years after their start and seven since their last release (having actually changed names for a short spell in between). And except for welcoming new drummer Joshua Florian and expanding to a quintet with the addition of second guitarist Jywanza Hobson, not much has changed in Crisis' wacky world. "Expect the unexpected" remains their unofficial credo, as restless rhythms and untraditional song structures continually vie for position with perennially madcap vocalist Karyn Crisis to unleash ...
