| | Earth, Wind, And Fire Definitive Collection CD Earth, Wind, And Fire Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Additional personnel includes: The Emotions, The Phoenix Horns.
Recorded between 1973 and 1981. Includes liner notes by Mark Coleman.
Columbia's 1998 collection of Earth, Wind & Fire's Greatest Hits in many ways stands as the group's definitive compilation. Even though there have been more extensive overviews of the group's work, such as the triple-disc set The Eternal Dance, this is the first collection to contain all of the group's biggest hits on one disc. All but one ("Love Music") of the ten songs from 1978's The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire are included, while six of the ten songs from The Best Of, Vol. 2 are featured; the remaining two cuts on the 17-track collection are the minor early single "Kalimba Story" and the album cut "Gratitude." These are fine additions to the album, but the true meat of the collection lies in the hits -- "Shining Star," "That's the Way of the World," "Sing a Song," "Getaway," "Got to Get You Into My Life," "September," "Boogie Wonderland," "After the Love Has Gone," "Let's Groove," and so many others. They might not be presented in chronological order (the only flaw in this otherwise flawless collection), but it's a sheer delight to have all of the hits on one terrifically entertaining and valuable disc. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Definitive Collection Music Definitive Collection Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) 1970's revisited This is a band that I heard on a daily basis, back in the 70's, then it's almost like they disappeared from my life. Then I picked up this CD, wow, nothing but great hits... Shining Star, Sing A Song, Fantasy, September, and a bunch more. They were a force in the 70's, and as far as I'm concerned they are now a force in the 00's and beyond. The song selection on this disc is great, the sound quality is very good and all on a gold platter. Can you beat that? Submitted by matthewirmen (Arab, Alabama) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Silkk The Shocker Based On A True Story CD (2004)
Definitive Collection
$9.49 When New Orleans label No Limit first hit the big time in the late 1990s, it was Silkk the Shocker who released the first major album (CHARGE IT 2 DA GAME) on the heels of founder Master P's multi-platinum breakthrough. When the company reemerged in 2004 with a Master P comeback, Silkk the Shocker again followed, this time with his fifth record (and his first in three years), BASED ON A TRUE STORY.
Always a distinctive vocalist, the Southern rapper improved his lyrical acuity by leaps and bounds during the hiatus. Over the span of his first four albums, Silkk reveled in all the usual trappings of gangsta rap, going gleefully over the top, more concerned with starting the party than with thoughtful lyrics. While BASED ON A TRUE STORY's themes stay true to the customary topics of girls, riches, prowess, and more girls (and, as it is on No Limit, basketball), "Why You Mad" and "We Don't Dance We Bounce" are practically introspective, rife with clever turns of phrase. However, that certainly is not to imply Silkk has forgotten how to throw a party, particularly on Petey Pablo-boasting single "We Like Them Girls." With BASED ON A TRUE STORY, Silkk the Shocker rises to new heights of his hip-hop skills.
There are two interesting things about Silkk the Shocker's fifth album, and that's more than usual. One is that it's been three years since his last album and he's grown when it comes to rapping. It's not by leaps and bounds, since he's still more ...
