| | Stratovarius Intermission CD (2001)
Mandrake CD music
$9.69 INTERMISSION contains four new songs and various live, rare and unreleased tracks.
It's obvious that Intermission is just an attempt to please fans and to postpone the making of their next studio album, but luckily it comes as a treat to those who already have all of Stratovarius' albums. Intermission is mainly compiled of covers, live and bonus tracks, and four completely new songs. Usually these type of albums ...
| | Opera Metal Metal Opera CD (2001)
Mandrake music CDs
$10.35 An all-star aggregation similar in conception to Ayreon, Avantasia's The Metal Opera naturally spotlights its creator, Tobias Sammet, who wrote all the music and the involved fantasy storyline over the course of a year as a side project from his main gig with the German power metal band Edguy. Though Sammet's vocals play a major role, he recruited some of his power metal contemporaries to sing the parts of different characters in the story, tailoring his casting choices -- elves, dwarves, Druids, and other D&D-type mainstays -- to their vocal ranges. (Oddly, given the themes, there's a bit of a Christian undertone to the lyrics.) It's tempting to say that for a grandiose conceptual project like this, the scope of the ambition is more ...

| | Furry Things Big Saturday Illusion CD (1996)
Mandrake songs
$12.95 After some fine single and compilation cuts, including the ridiculously great "Still California," which appears here, Furry Things achieved both a full band lineup and a fantastic overall debut with Big Saturday Illusion. Like many American indie groups of the '90s, the quartet's debt to fuzz pedal abusers such as My Bloody Valentine and the Flaming Lips was plenty clear throughout the album. Happily the group avoided sounding like just another knockoff, with a good balance of garage-level crash and bash and fried psychedelic feedback topped off with sometimes wispy, sometimes softly drawling vocals. Big Saturday hints at big ambitions without sounding full of itself, even on the biggest track of all, the heavy Krautrock megajam ...

| | Coasters Down Home CD (2007)
Mandrake album
$11.79 Although they had charted in the Top 40 ten times between 1957 and 1961, by 1966 the Coasters were desperate for a hit and reunited with producers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller for a session that produced the delightful and clever (how often do you hear Thelonious Monk name-checked in a song lyric?) "Soul Pad." The song, good as it was, went nowhere. The Coasters continued to work with Leiber & Stoller at sessions in 1967 and 1968, tracking songs like their clattering version of the Dixie Belles' "(Down at) Papa Joe's," and then at a last session in 1971, they cut a cover of "Love Potion Number Nine," which actually reached number 76 on the pop charts that year in what was to be the Coasters' final appearance on the list. In all, the Coasters cut some dozen songs with Leiber & Stoller between 1966 and 1971, and these were originally collected and released as an LP called The Coasters on Broadway (since ...
| | Fed Up Live At CBGB CD (2009)
Mandrake CD music
$9.59 Review in Maximum RocknRoll #317 Oct.09 by Bruce Roehrs Fucking A! New York hardcore veterans FED UP have a blistering new CD out on UNITED RIOT RECORDS! The Live FED UP material on this new release was recorded on November 30th, 2003 at the legendary CBGB's in New York City. The line-up for FED UP, includes DENNIS F.U. on vocals, Efren on drums, Dave M. on guitar and Dave "Skin" G. on Bass. The original bass player is Luis M.I.A. and Jesse Gasface sang guest vocals on "Bacardi & Blunts." On the "Live at CBGB" CD Dennis and FED UP rip through "Sick Fucks," "Bitch Slap," "Rebels," "Elimination," "Lashing Out," "Snitch Bitch," "Stand Proud," "Hamburger Deluxe," "Drunken Violence," "Chupa Chocha," and "All I Ask" (originally performed by BREAKDOWN). The CD continues with "Last Straw," "Bacardi & Blunts," "Bodacious Ta-Tas," a 4-SKINS cover "Wonderful World" and finally "Fed Up," their self-titled anthem to finish off a great live show! For your copy of this CD, contact United Riot Records WWW. UNITEDRIOTRECORDS. COM Marco / NFT===FED UP! - 'LIVE AT CGBG' CDThis was recorded at CBGB in 2003 on the same day they christened Joey Ramone Way and is the band's reminder of the good times they had in the now, very sadly, defunct CBGB. FED UP! Are pure NYHC - tons of attitude and aggression and a heavy, powerhouse hardcore sound and this all comes through in the live recording which is great because live stuff can go either way and sometimes you end up getting a flat and thin, pale version of the actual even and with a hardcore band, that's gonna destroy it completely so it's good to hear that this is a powerful and faithful recording. Of course you can only get so close with a live recording and it's never going to be like actually being there but this is a first-class depiction of FED UP! live. It's fast and frantic with hostility oozing out of the speakers and it's a great mix too, everything is totally audible and sounds great. I know a lot of people are on the fence when it comes to live records and they are usually something reserved for real fans but I would put this right up there with FED UP!'s studio recordings, there's a lot of energy here and the fact that the recording / mixing is so good makes it a really good release. United Riot Records unitedriotrecords Punk Globe Zine "Ginger Coyote A live recording from the now legendary CBGB'S (R.I.P. Hilly and CBGB'S) and I am amazed at how well it sounds.. The recording quality really fucking rawks... 100% Oi /Hardcore! If you like The 4 Skins, Murphy's Law, Breakdown, or Agnostic Front you will like this CD. I wonder if it was recorded at a Saturday Afternoon Hardcore show? I really enjoyed "Sick Fucks" and "Bacardi and Blunts" ... Hardcore lovers order this record now.
