Outstanding... ahead of time music
This band formed in Vasby, Sweden had their best formation on their two early albums; Europe from 1983 and its subsequent Wings of Tomorrow, one of the first and best Power Metal records of all time.
The record starts with, In The future to Come, an epic early version of what became after to be known as Power Metal, in a more melodic vain. Also and in the same style there's, Seven Doors Hotel, with both songs setting standards for upcoming generations, with complex arrangements; John Levén (who played with Ingwie Malmsteen on an early Rising Force) solid tight, bass lines, john Norum uplifting solos ahead of time and double pedal drumming, courtesy of the one an original Tony (real name "Nemisto") Reno, who also shines in the middle anthemic instrumental progression on "Seven Doors" with accurate powerful technique and syncopation, altogether incluiding the slow tempo, The King Will Return, are up to five minutes long, which is something that we barely heard on Bon Jovi or other acts that lead the American Hair Metal scene in latter years, with out a doubt these guys came from a very distant musical background, apart from all the crap that came out of the Californian market in the eighties, its so cheap to hear people from the American Specialized Press making fun out of "Europe" saying they where a Cheesy group, copyng Bon Jovi, take a listen to these records and you will hear their real thing.
Farewell, has that more hard Rock and Roll aproach, in which we can hear the Thin Lizzy influence, or early Rainbow, still with the "Naive" voice of Joey Tempest(real name Joakim larsson) who with the roughness of his voice gave this "era" a particular and original sound.
Boyazont, like "Aphasia" on Wings of Tomorrow, presented as an instrumental tradition, basically the opening to the next and hurried galloped, Children of this Time, of 4:55 minutes long, are another amazing cuts, where Jhon Norum along with Reno are shining, Words of Wisdom, probably the first real slow attempt of the band, gives us those keyboards, played by Tempest, through the album also and the very "Schenker" guitar sound like, from one Norum, who manages very effectively to touch our souls with his experimantal and visionary playing, Paradise Bay again as the more "Rock and Roller, get down" number, leads us to the end with the heavy- fast and emotive "Memories".
Europe are still playing 'Wings of Tomorrow" live when I saw them a few months ago, they also play; "Sign of the Times", "Girl from Lebanon" and "Yestarday News", songs that are among the classics in their catalog.

A Differant Europe
Those who go out and discover the pre 'Countdown' era Europe, will discover a band that had not yet been seduced by the power of commercial greed. On Europe's debut album, they unleash several classic worthy tracks such as 'The Future To Come, 'Seven Doors Hotel' and 'The King Will Return.' Do not expect the pop metal commercialism presented on 'Countdown' or the albums that followed. What you get here is good honest Swedish Heavy Metal, that borders on what we today refer to as Power Metal. This is a good listen, and the songs have held up remarkabley well in the 20+ years since they were recorded. I much prefer this version of Europe to the crap that they are putting out these days. Even the most true Heavy Metal fan will find something on this album to like, that cannot be said about the trendy waste that is being passed off as Europe today.

It's not soft metal , it's HEAVY METAL
In my honest opinion , this is Europe' best album. This album has tons of metal milestones , such as Seven Doors Hotel , boyazont , and others. This album was only popular in scandinavia and japan. I don't know why the americans didn't like Europe. John Norum , Joey Tempest , Tony Reno(EWW), and John Levin are very talented musicians. This is a must have if you are a heavy metal guru

AWSOME 1st CD BY EUROPE
Europe (1983) Europe's 1st album - It all began in 1982 when Europe won a big contest called "Rock SM". the next year they released there self titled debut album. But the question is.. Did this album bring Joey Tempest, John Norum, John Leven, & Tony Reno any sucess? Answer...NO it didn't this was a commercial failure, Europe didn't gain any sucess until 1986's Final Countdown album. But anyway "Europe" is still a good album now let me talk about this album simply titled "Europe"....There are many tracks on this that rock such as Farewell and Children Of This Time, but my favourite track of this is the opening track on this album is the opening track entitled "In The Future To Come". 1.) In The Future To Come (5/5) - Like I said this is the BEST TRACK ON THIS AWSOME CD & My favourite track on this CD, This is also one of the songs they played at "Rock SM" and it perfectly opens this CD. 2.) Farewell (5/5) - AWSOME track, I like the course, and I like the song 3.) Seven Doors Hotel (5/5) - This is considered to be the best track on this album when I listend to this track I LOVED IT!, It wasn't the best track but it was a great one. 4.) The King Will Return (5/5) - This is another song that they played at "Rock SM", They preformed this track great live but the one they performed in the studio was better. 5.) Boyazont (5/5) - Not bad for an instrumental track. 6.) Children Of This Time (5/5) - Another great track preformed by a great band, And from a great album. 7.) Words Of Wisdom (3/5) - Wierd, very wierd, Not the best track but I kinda like it 8.) Paradize Bay (4/5) - It's "another" great track, Gotta love the course and the sounds in this one. 9.) Memories (5/5) - This is the track that closes this AWSOME CD I like Joey's voice and John Norum's guitar playing in this song, They didn't play this at "Rock SM" but they played it at "Bagen Live" in 1984. If you are a BIG fan of Europe Then You should buy this album (Despite being a commercial failure) It's hard to get a hold of but it's worth a try. You should also get "Wings Of Tomorrow" It's a great album just like this one, If I could give this album over 5 stars I would. Even though this was a commercial failure this is still one of my all time favourite Europe recordings. Anyway enjoy the album!
