SOUL KISS is the remastered 1985 reissue by Australian pop star Olivia-Newton John, featuring "Toughen Up," "Soul Kiss," and "Culture Shock."
"Physical" and "Make a Move on Me" were brilliant singles from 1981's Physical album, and they achieved their status as timeless pop classics without the help of a Xanadu soundtrack. "Overnight Observation" from Soul Kiss doesn't come close to the magic of those radio gems. It, like the front and back cover photos, seems a bit contrived, as does much of this album. "You Were Great, How Was I?" is a duet with Carl Wilson, and features he and Christopher Cross providing authentic Beach Boys harmonies. Despite the saxes of Tom Scott, the synths of Newton-John songwriter Tom Snow, and superb support from Lee Ritenour and the late Carlos Vega, the song feels like an outtake from John Travolta and Grease V. "Toughen Up" opens the album with power, but without the authority of "Physical" or the charm of her early country pop albums. The country market is completely abandoned here, and though "Toughen Up" gets more bearable after repeated spins, it is far removed from the gal who sang Dolly Parton's "Jolene" and the Bee Gees' "Come on Over" almost a decade earlier. Olivia looks like Missing Persons singer Dale Bozzio on the cover, and sounds a bit like her on "Toughen Up." "Soul Kiss." the title track, is actually a good, dark, moody song written by Mark Goldenberg, who also plays synthesizer on it. Producer John Farrar is on Synclavier and guitar, with Newton-John providing her own eerie backing vocals. The tune nicked the Top 20, and though that is three spaces higher than what "Come on Over" achieved in 1976, the earlier tune topped the A/C charts as well. Olivia seems to have abandoned her strongholds, adult contemporary and country, her superstar status not worthy of this temporary image, a transition which needed stronger material for this big a change. An excellent song like "Soul Kiss" could very well be Olivia Newton-John's cult hit because of the confusion of this project, a bit goth mixed with techno, it flies out of the park. The rest of the album misses the enduring texture of her hits from the Totally Hot album, "A Little More Love" and "Deeper Than the Night," moods that could have continued to work here. Still, Olivia Newton-John reigned as queen of the pop charts for a 14-year stretch, from "If Not for You" in July of 1971 to "Soul Kiss" in October of 1985. Many people went from their teens to their thirties with her music in their lives. If the song "Soul Kiss" didn't get the penetration on the airwaves, music like "Emotional Tangle" and select other cuts on this album would make for wonderful additions to the inevitable Olivia Newton-John boxed set, even if the album, as a whole, is one of the weaker links in Olivia's remarkable chain. ~ Joe Viglione
Digitally remastered reissue of Olivia's top 30 1985 albumfor MCA. 10 tracks, including the top 20 title smash. 1998Festival Records release. Soul Kiss Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) A Great Olivia album with a difference! I hadnt listened to this album in a few years, even though I knew it all off by heart. I recently bought it on cd and it sounds great! At the minute my favs are "Overnight Observation" and "The Right Moment". According to what Ive read Olivia was pregnant during the release of this album so it didnt get much promotion. A great Olivia album with a difference, she never really made any more of this kind of music after, apparently fans grew tired of her "sexy" image. I for one really like it and would highly recommend a listen! Enjoy! Submitted by natalie.fan (Northern Ireland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Wicked! This one rocks! It sounds alot different to Olivia's past abnums. There are alot more up beat tracks like "Toughen Up" and "Driving Music".... "Queen Of The Publication" and "Moth To A Flame" are awesome songs and 2 of my favourites from Olivia. "The Right Moment" is a very nice song, "Culture Shock" is wicked I love that one too. Really the whole album rules, it's probabley my favourite Olivia cd, I really enjoy listening to it. Submitted by onj_rulz (Melbourne Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
best what a fab album to follow up "physical" and if you love that this is goes further, with a reggae song, very furturistic songs and taking Olivia sound wise into another dimension and with the haunting "the right moment" with opera style vocals at the end of the song.
the only regret here is that this was fab opportunity to add more bonus tracks like the
Toughen up 12 remix and dub
Soul kiss 12 dub, remix and intrumental remix and bonus tracks on B side to soul kiss - electric.

Soul Kiss album
$15.05 DON'T STOP BELIEVIN' is a 1976 release by soft-rock star Olivia Newton-John, featuring "Thousand Conversations."
The 1976 edition of Olivia Newton-John continues the positive vibe that Have You Never Been Mellow initiated, and though the title track hit number one on the adult contemporary charts, it, surprisingly, failed to go higher than Top 30 pop. A shame because exactly five years later a different song with the exact same title and sentiment went Top Ten for Journey; the comparison is appropriate because Don't Stop Believin' is one of the slickest of Newton-John's country pop releases. Despite the extra gloss producer John Farrar put on this, it still retains some of the warmth of earlier Newton-John projects while making that inevitable pitch to the '70s record buying public. "New Born Babe" contains elegant musicianship, while Bruce Welch's "Hey Mr. Dreammaker" is bouncy country -- the antithesis of Gary Wright's "Dream Weaver," which was released, not so coincidentally, ...
| | Olivia Newton-John Clearly Love CD (1975) Australia
Soul Kiss CD music
$12.79 Lovable Australian pop singer Olivia Newton-John sings catchy original songs combined with alluring covers on this 11-track album from 1975.
Nine beautiful photos accompany the lyrics -- Olivia with horses, Olivia in the hay, Olivia with a doggy; following up the phenomenal success of Have You Never Been Mellow was pretty elementary -- Newton-John ruled the Top 40, adult contemporary, and country charts at this point in time. From the end of 1975 to early 1976, Clearly Love generated a Top 20 and two Top 30 hits: "Something Better to Do" and "Let It Shine" b/w "He Ain't Heavy...He's My Brother," respectively. They both topped the adult contemporary charts while the flip of "Let It Shine," a rare female-vocalist cover of "He Ain't Heavy...He's My Brother," also garnered radio and sales action. The choices for cover songs on this album are strange indeed: an unnecessary "Summertime Blues" which adds nothing to Eddie Cochran's song of hot-weather angst and the interesting remake of the Hollies' hit "He Ain't ...
| | Olivia Newton-John Totally Hot CD (1978) Australia
Soul Kiss music CDs
$12.79 TOTALLY HOT is a 1978 set by soft rock star Olicia Newton-John.
Totally Hot is one of the most fun albums from Olivia Newton John. Total abandon is its trademark, the atmosphere lightened up a bit, and from top to bottom it is one of her most satisfying projects. "Please Don't Keep Me Waiting" is a girl group all grown up. Is it Newton-John's voice or Michael Botticker's synthesizer at the end of the first track? A little jarring for her country audience, but she takes care of them on "Dancin' 'Round and 'Round," a wonderful country-pop tune and quick about face. As with the Let Me Be There release, her name is prominently splashed on the cover and the tan background suits her well, with the mysterious look with the kerchief on the inside cover as playful as the music. David Foster, Steve Lukather, and Tom Snow add their talents to the project, but it is Newton-John, with the guidance of John Farrar, who really shines here. Her own "Talk to Me" is bouncy adult contemporary, but it is the two hit singles which, naturally, stand out. Tom Snow's "Deeper Than the Night" was a nice musical departure for the singer, with its strong piano reflecting the ...

$14.45 Also available on CD in MORE THAN PHYSICAL box on Griffin (373-0) including the 150-page book MORE THAN PHYSICAL: A COLLECTOR'S GUIDE.
MORE THAN PHYSICAL comes in a box consisting of the CD HAVE YOU NEVER BEEN MELLOW and a 150-page book: OLIVIA--MORE THAN PHYSICAL: A COLLECTOR'S GUIDE. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN MELLOW is also available separately on CD on Griffin (373-2).
This early release from singer Olivia Newton-John showcases her country-pop mode, with "Have You Ever Been Mellow," "Goodbye Again," and others showing off her refined vocal grace.
The hit single "Have You Never Been Mellow" carried Olivia Newton-John right back to number one, six months after "I Honestly Love You" brought the singer to that coveted position for the first time. The title track is a masterpiece of songwriting by her producer, John Farrar, an exquisitely pleasant melody with a sunny and peaceful theme. Having covered John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads" on the Let Me Be There album in 1973, Newton-John goes back to the Denver catalog twice on this project, including her beautiful rendition of one of his lesser-known ...
| | Olivia Newton-John Let Me Be There CD (1973) Australia
Soul Kiss album
$12.79 Digitally remastered reissue of Olivia's 1974 & secondalbum featuring the top 10 title hit. A collection of 12covers, it also contains her renditions of John Denver's'Take Me Home Country Roads' and Don McLean's 'If We Try'.1998 Festival Records release.
Two years after the single "If Not for You" hit the Top 25 on the Uni label, the MCA imprint re-released most of the If Not for You album, along with Newton-John's second U.S. hit, "Let Me Be There," and titled the disc after the new smash. With seductive blue ink shadowing her beautiful face and the word Olivia splashed atop the cover, the company created a collector's item with the original LP, a respect from the aficionados that couldn't have been predicted in the '70s, and well-deserved credibility for the popular artist. The first single hit number one on the middle-of-the-road charts, and that market, along with her country base, enabled Newton-John to rack up 26 additional hits, concluding with 1985's "Soul Kiss," the last one almost mirroring her initial success, going Top 20. This collection is a little awkward for the fans who purchased ...
