U.S. Marshall Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday team up to bring law to the lawless in a notorious showdown with ruthless outlaws at the O.K. Corral.

Arizona, 1879. Legendary Dodge City marshall Wyatt Earp, his wife Mattie and his brothers Virgil and Morgan just rode into Tombstone. These veteran frontiersmen hope to open a small business and settle into a quiet life. But they get more than they bargained for: Tombstone is a lawless municipality inhabited by a bunch of carousing locals. To make matters worse, the entire village is victimized by a gang of infamous outlaws. Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan may be the only formidable force around to confront them head-on.

"Tombstone" was written by "Glory" screenwriter Kevin Jarre, who was originally slated to direct. George Pan Cosmatos ("Rambo: First Blood, Part II") replaced him. Kevin Costner was still working on his version of the Wyatt Earp story for Warner Bros. (directed by Lawrence Kasdan) when "Tombstone" was released December 25, 1993. Jarre told reporters that Costner's film was initially slated to "crush my picture." Jarre was afraid his picture wouldn't get made but a William Morris agent got Russell to star in the film (even if Russell was a client of the Creative Artists Agency); after that, the rest of the cast quckly fell into place. Budget estimate $25 million. Filmed in location in Tucson, Arizona, in Technicolor and Panavision. Rated MPAA R, running time 127 minutes. Rated BBFC 15 by the British Board of Film Classification.

Tombstone Reviews:

"...TOMBSTONE is replete with traditional Western pleasures: lusciously photographed sunsets, rugged landscapes, consistently witty dialogue...and a gallery of finely-realised heroes and villains..." -- Tom Tunney, Sight and Sound

"...Russell's clear, steady portrayal of Wyatt Earp gives the film a core of emotional integrity..." -- Stephen Holden, New York Times

"...The leanest, meanest Earp movie yet....Sprawling, chaotic [climax]..." -- Michael Sauter, Entertainment Weekly

5 stars Kevin Costner can go to Hell
Tombstone directed by George P. Cosmatos and starring Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer is far superior to the dreck put out by Kevin Costner that same year. This movie is fun, exciting, beautifully shot and marvelously played, everything that a western should be. Costner's Wyatt Earp is drab, tedious, and has the personality of a dirty gym sock, plus it stars Kevin Costner...but then I'm being a bit redundant aren't I? This 2 disc director's cut of Tombstone restores a couple of scenes missing from the original release that add both heft and tone to the overall story. Strongest Possible Recommendation. By the way...it should be noted...I've been to the real town of Tombstone...and this is the picture they pay attention to. ...Costner's film barely gets a mention. Tombstone has a better mock up of the actual town, and does a better job telling it's epic story.

5 stars Magnificent
The casting director hit the "nail on the head" when she cast Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer and Dana Delaney in this epic Wyatt Earp western. If the real characters were anything like this portrayal, beam me over to this time period Scotty ! A must have for your DVD library.

The first of three prequels to George Lucas's celebrated STAR WARS films, EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE is set some 30 years before the original STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE in the era of the Republic. Naboo, a peaceful planet governed by the young but wise Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman), is being threatened by the corrupt Trade Federation, puppets of an evil Sith lord and his terrifying apprentice, Darth Maul (Ray Park). Jedi knights Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor, performing an amazing vocal imitation of Alec Guinness, the older Obi-Wan) are called on to intervene in the trade disputes. Along the way, they acquire an apprentice of their own in the form of young prodigy Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd), or as STAR WARS fans know him, the future Darth Vader. They also encounter Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best), a goofy, lizardlike creature who has been banished from his underwater world for clumsiness. When the Trade Federation launches an attack on Naboo, the queen and her allies must battle hordes of robot troopers while Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan face off against the sinister Darth Maul. One of the most anticipated films of all time, THE PHANTOM MENACE sets the stage for the tumultuous events to come. Lucas fills the screen with detailed sci-fi creatures and locations, revealing the most creative and exquisite sets, costumes, and character designs to hit the screen since the original trilogy. "Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace" is a journey ...

Director Ridley Scott's lush fantasy film stars the young Tom Cruise as Jack, a peasant who lives in an enchanted forest with his beloved Lili (Mia Sara). One day, while quietly gamboling in a glade, the pair is distracted by the appearance of trolls, minions of the evil Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry). The cloven-footed, cavern-dwelling monster, long banished to the earth's nether regions, has sent the creatures on a mission to seize the horn of a unicorn, thereby plunging the planet into a frigid darkness over which he alone will reign. Things go from bad to worse as Lili succumbs to the forces of darkness, and Jack must assemble a motley band of elves to free her from bondage and return sunlight to the earth's surface. Sumptous art direction and overwhelming special effects are once again a testament to Scott's powers of visual invention. In this classic fantasy/adventure, pure good and foulest evil will soon battle to the death. Set amid a timeless mythical forest inhabited by fairies, goblins and other magical folk is the story of Jack, a forest dweller who lives in solitude and harmony with the animals of the wood--including Unicorns, ...

When inexperienced call girl Alabama Whitman (Patricia Arquette) is paid to seduce comic-book-nerd and Elvis fanatic Clarence Worley (Christian Slater), she doesn't expect to fall for him. But these two lost souls seem to be made for each other and quickly pledge their love, marrying at Detroit's city hall. Clarence discovers some newfound bravado and attempts to retrieve Alabama's possessions from her pimp, Drexl (Gary Oldman), who isn't exactly eager to let Alabama go. Fleeing Drexl's apartment, Clarence not only leaves a trail of bodies, but also inadvertently mistakes a suitcase of uncut cocaine for one with his wife's clothing, and the chase is on. The unlikely newlyweds head for Los Angeles hoping to sell the cocaine and make enough money to leave the country. Unfortunately, they also have to contend with the mob, yuppie drug dealers and the police. Michael Rapaport is amusing as Clarence's best friend who lives with Floyd, a stoner played by Brad Pitt. A sedate Dennis Hopper appears as Clarence's father, who ultimately faces off with mob boss Vincenzo Coccotti (Christopher Walken). Director ...

In writer-director Frank Darabont's THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his wife and her lover in the late 1940s. However, only Andy knows that he didn't commit the crimes. Sent to Shawshank Prison to do hard time, Andy--a taciturn banker in the outside world--has to learn to get by in the brutal, cutthroat confines of prison life. His quiet strength slowly earns the respect of his fellow inmates--most notably, Red (Morgan Freeman)--and even much of the prison staff. But Andy's seemingly stoic acceptance of his unjust imprisonment hides a fierce determination for freedom. This beautifully crafted movie features touching and sincere performances from the entire cast, with an uplifting message about humanity's indomitable spirit and the redemptive value ...

Tombstone review
DVD $5.69  4.8 stars Top 500
A charming, low-key romantic comedy, MURPHY'S ROMANCE is full of the small pleasures missing from other pictures of its genre. James Garner, in his first Oscar-nominated performance, is the title character, Murphy. Garner lends his unique, down-home persona to the character while the film's writers endow the character with some memorable lines. Murphy's romance begins when Emma (Field) arrives in the small Arizona town where he lives. With her she brings her son Jake, and a feisty attitude. Though this sounds like a set-up from any number of other film romances, it becomes clear from their first meeting that the director, Martin Ritt, is more interested in his carefully observed setting, and in the comic flirtations between Murphy and Emma flirtations, than in making a conventional ...

John Ford's biopic of his friend Frank "Spig" Wead stars John Wayne as the decorated naval hero who went on to become the screenwriter of such films as Ford's THEY WERE EXPENDABLE and Howard Hawks's CEILING ZERO. After World War I, Frank strives to demonstrate the potential of seaplanes for use in warfare to the navy by winning a number of competitions. As the pilot's star rises, he spends time working and indulging in adolescent horseplay with his buddies while his wife, Minnie (Maureen O'Hara), languishes at home with the children that Frank barely knows. On the night when a much desired assignment to command a fighter squadron finally comes through, the pilot is paralyzed after an accidental fall. Ashamed of his condition, Frank refuses to accept consolation or help from his wife or family and will allow only his military mates, Jughead Carson (Dan Dailey) and John Price (Ken Curtis), to aid his long rehabilitation. After a bout of depression, he begins to write of his experiences, slowly transforming himself into a professional author. THE WINGS OF EAGLES features an endearing mix of low comedy and high drama expertly interwoven by Ford, who also allows a delightful spoof of himself in the form of Ward Bond's hilarious portrayal of a Fordian director named John Dodge. Cmdr. Frank "Spig" Wead was a pioneer aviator, renowned screenwriter (whose works included John Ford's They Were Expendable) and a man of war. The skies beckoned Spig to action; a crippling injury ultimately ...
