After a brilliant career with the U.S. army, WWII hero and Jewish American Mickey Marcus (Kirk Douglas) is called to the new state of Israel to build an army capable of withstanding its Arab foes. Against the wishes of his wife (Angie Dickinson), Mickey makes the journey and begins transforming a rag-tag underground army into a first-class fighting machine. But as the threat of war looms, Mickey must also confront his growing attraction to beautiful activist Magda Simon (Senta Berger). Kirk Douglas stars as the military adventurer and freedom fighter Colonel David (Mickey) Marcus in this star-studded epic about the founding of the state of Israel.
Not satisfied by the simple domestic life, in which Colonel Marcus finds himself after the end of World War II, he volunteers to join the fight for the liberation of Israel. But Marcus's initial thirst for adventure, becomes something more it becomes a patriotic and passionate commitment to Zionism.
In this story of Israel's difficult struggle for statehood, Douglas plays the role of colonel David Marcus, an American military officer who defied orders and led a faction of the Israeli Army in defense of its newly formed borders. Produced in association with Llenroc.

The first all-black film produced by a major studio, HALLELUJAH represented the culmination of King Vidor's long-standing desire to do a project dealing with the lives of African Americans, strongly influenced by his childhood experience in Galveston, Texas. The film stars Daniel Hayes as Zeke Johnson, an impoverished young sharecropper living in South Carolina. When he and his brother Spunk (Everett McGarritty) go north to sell their cotton crop, Daniel falls for the seductive Chick (Nina Mae McKinney) without realizing she's a shill for the rigged crap game of her lover, Hot Shot (William Fountaine).
