| | Roy Orbison Classic Roy CD Roy Orbison Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Roy Orbison came back for a third MGM album in 1966 and delivered Classic Roy, which was probably the best album be ever did for the label. Every song was cast in a familiar, classic Orbison vein, without any of the country piano sounds that showed a digression on recent releases, and most of it -- especially "Just Another Name for Rock and Roll" -- had a beat that was still highly appealing in mid-1966. Working more thoroughly within a band setting here, this is stripped-down, back-to-basics Orbison, maybe only lacking a hit single of the same obvious proportions as those Monument albums. Classic Roy was reissued in 2008 on Sony/BMG. ~ Bruce Eder & Al Campbell
2008 digitally remastered reissue of this original MGM Records album from the Rock icon, released to coincide with the 20th anniversary of his death. Orbison remains one of the true godfathers of Rock 'N' Roll and Pop with his deep catalog still fondly remember by millions of people around the world. He was known for his smooth tenor voice, which could jump three octaves with little trouble. While not as rebellious as his Rock 'N' Roll brethren, Orbison's talents have continued to keep him poised high in the upper echelons of Rock Legends. This album is NOT a collection of hits as the title suggests but an album full of masterful songs performed in that classic Orbison way. 12 tracks. Sony/BMG. Early Merseybeat-flavored sides like "Love Me Do" (the band's first Stateside hit), "She Loves You," and "I Want To Hold Your Hand" struck a chord early on with hordes ...
