This single disc compilation of Brinsley Schwarz's two best albums is the perfect introduction to the revered English group's amiable blend of rock, R&B, country and reggae. Led by singer/songwriter/bassist Nick Lowe, Brinsley Schwarz were arguably the best known band to emerge from the pub rock scene (a reference to the small pubs where bands typically performed) that thrived in England in the early seventies.
Released in 1972, NERVOUS ON THE ROAD captures Brinsley Schwarz at the peak of their powers. Performing everything from swinging pop ("Surrender To The Rhythm"), New-Orleans funk ("I Like It Like That") and such gritty R&B as "Home In My Hand," Brinsley Schwarz created a fresh, down-to-earth sound. Recorded two years after NERVOUS with producer Dave Edmunds, NEW FAVORITES found the band moving in a more pop-oriented direction. The album's centerpiece is an anthemic rock version of Nick Lowe's "What's So Funny (About Peace Love And Understanding)." The moody R&B ballad "Ever Since You're Gone" and the catchy beat group pop of "The Ugly Things" illustrate why Nick Lowe's remarkable ability to write almost any style of music allowed Brinsley Schwarz to retain their vitality long after many of their contemporaries were forgotten.
Reissue of the English roots-rock act's 1974 album. 14 tracks including 4 bonus 'I've Cried My Last Tear', '(It's Gonna Be A) Bringdown', 'Everybody' & 'There's A Cloud In My Heart'. 2002 release. Brinsley Schwarz New Favorites Of Songs | 1. | Peace, Love and Understanding | |

New Favorites Of music CDs
$10.55 For a band that remained relatively consistent (with a few minor exceptions) in their approach to rock & roll since 1968, Jethro Tull also possessed a sound that was uniquely '70s-oriented during their most successful period between 1971-1978. Avid fans have been yearning for the group's return to the style which made them one of the most successful of the guitar-based, mainstream prog outfits -- albums like Broadsword and the Beast and J-Tull.Com touched on their former glory, but they didn't fully satisfy. ...

New Favorites Of songs
$6.25 The CD contains the four songs from the bonus EP--NICK LOWE & DAVE EDMUNDS SING THE EVERLY BROTHERS--included with the original LP release.
Kindred spirits Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe had worked together extensively in different capacities in the 1970s, but their on-again/off-again band Rockpile only recorded one album, 1980's superlative SECONDS OF PLEASURE. It stands as one of the finest examples of the pub-rock/power-pop crossroads that defined the band's aesthetic. Edmunds and Lowe's American influences are worn on the sleeve (literally), as they spark new life into tunes by Chuck Berry ("Oh What a Thrill") and ...
| | Nick Lowe Jesus Of Cool: 30th Anniversary Edition CD (1978) Reissue; Digipak
New Favorites Of album
$12.55 Nick Lowe's first album threw down the gauntlet in grand form--a baker's dozen of "pure pop for now people" (which is, in fact, what a nervous Columbia Records retitled the album for its stateside release). Lowe was charting regularly in his English homeland, and though he didn't reach the same heights of chart success in America, several songs have become familiar late '70s/early '80s reference points, particularly "I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass" and "So It Goes." At the time of this album's release Lowe was also the house producer for Stiff Records (Britain's ...
