| | King Tubby Form Palace Of Dub: Essential CD - Import King Tubby Discography of CDs
Entering King Tubby's dub world of spooky organs, ghostly and detached voices, echoing gunshot drums, and watery, reverb-drenched guitars is a bit like waking from a dream, a mid-place where the familiar takes on eerie shapes and simple sung phrases take on mysterious overtones. While a whole album of this stuff will start to feel like overkill for casual listeners after two or three tracks, for the dub-initiated, there is no one like King Tubby. This collection features "Angel Dub," "Zion Gate Dub," and other classics. ~ Steve Leggett Form Palace Of Dub: Essential Music | List Price | $17.98 (You save $1.89) | | Category | Reggae Albums, Reggae/Ska/Calypso CDs, Dub | | Label | Green | | Orig Year | 2001 | | CD Universe Part number | 2404650 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | May 01, 2008 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Additional Info | Import; Canada |

Form Palace Of Dub: Essential CD music
$8.49 Recorded between 1991 & 1995. Includes liner notes by Eliana Oumana.
With one foot planted firmly in Jamaica's tradition of classic toasting (his precursors include U-Roy and Yellowman), and the other in the burgeoning world of American hip hop, Shabba Ranks purveyed a hard-hitting ragga-rap style that came to typify the form known as dancehall. Delivered over deep, bass-thick production, Ranks' provocative, rhythmically infectious delivery struck an international chord. The artist's particularly successful tenure at Epic Records in the early-to-mid-1990s is represented on GREATEST HITS, an impressive and well selected--if not comprehensive--sampler of Shabba's talents.
Included here are popular collaborations with other singers, including Maxi Priest ("Housecall"), Johnny Gill ("Slow and Sexy"), and KRS-One ("The Jam"); in addition to pairings with producers and ...

| | Culture Two Sevens Clash: 30th Anniversary Edition CD (1978) Deluxe Edition
Form Palace Of Dub: Essential CD music
$15.05 One of the masterpieces of the roots era, no album better defines its time and place than Two Sevens Clash, which encompasses both the religious fervor of its day and the rich sounds of contemporary Jamaica. Avowed Rastafarians, Culture had formed in 1976, and cut two singles before beginning work on their debut album with producers the Mighty Two (aka Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson). Their second single, "Two Sevens Clash," would title the album and provide its focal point. The song swept across the island like a wildfire, its power fed by the apocalyptic fever that held the island in its clutches throughout late 1976 and into 1977. (Rastafarians believed the apocalypse would begin when the two sevens clashed, with July 7, 1977, when the four sevens clashed, the most fearsome date of concern.) However, the song itself was fearless, celebrating the impending apocalypse, while simultaneously reminding listeners of a series of prophesies by Marcus Garvey and twinning them to the island's current state. For those of true faith, the end of the world did not spell doom, but release from the misery of life into the eternal and heavenly arms of Jah. Thus, Clash is filled with a sense of joy mixed with deep spirituality, and a belief that historical injustice was soon to be righted. The music, ...

Form Palace Of Dub: Essential songs
$9.09 Few reggae bands evoked their audience's suffering as viscerally as the Mighty Diamonds, not least because of lead vocalist Donald "Tabby" Shaw. Although overshadowed by stars like Bunny Wailer, Shaw's aching lilt remains a compelling signature of the roots-oriented '70s era. His graceful yet forceful presence on songs like "I Need a Roof" -- which laments lack of housing -- is exactly what the music needs. A strong moralistic undertone runs throughout the album. "Right Time" warns of an impending breakdown in social ...
