| | Best Of British Blues, Vol. 1 CD
Recorded between 1963 and 1967. Includes liner notes by Greg Russo.
The Best of British Blues, Vol. 1 features a hefty dose of classic songs from the golden age of British blues. All the big names are here: the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck, Savoy Brown Blues Band, Jimmy Page, Rod Stewart, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, and many more. Plus, in addition to the many marvelous performers, there are plenty of classic blues songs here, longtime favorites like Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightning," John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom," "Train Kept A-Rollin'," "Bright Lights, Big City," and more. Overall, this is a great best-of-the-best collection featuring not only classic performers but also classic songs. A great place to begin investigating British blues. ~ Jason Birchmeier Best Of British Blues, Vol. 1 Music Best Of British Blues, Vol. 1 Review

Best Of British Blues, Vol. 1 album
$6.79 You might mistake this for a live record, but this is actually a 1973 studio release by the Texas blues guitar master. Winter's first release after a brief retirement/drying-out period, STILL ALIVE AND WELL, from the title on down, has the feeling of a major comeback, although Winter really hadn't been gone for very long. Looking hale and hearty on the cover--or as hale and hearty as a rail-thin albino can look, anyway--Winter sounds equally fit on the songs themselves. Produced by his longtime collaborator Rick Derringer, who also leads the tight and flashy band with his rhythm and second lead playing, the album ...
| | Buddy's Baddest: The Best Of Buddy Guy CD (1999)
Best Of British Blues, Vol. 1 CD music
$8.99 In 1991 Buddy Guy teamed up with Silvertone Records, doubtless hoping for a piece of the action being enjoyed by John Lee Hooker following his career-reviving THE HEALER. Featuring a crack selection of backing musicians, DAMN RIGHT, I'VE GOT THE BLUES was liberally spiced with big name rock artists. The formula worked and Buddy Guy won many new fans. On the next two albums, FEELS LIKE RAIN and SLIPPIN' IN, the heavy friends were gradually phased out in favour of fine ensemble work.
Tellingly, of the four tracks chosen from DAMN RIGHT, only "Mustang Sally" has a stellar contribution (from Jeff Beck). The three songs selected from FEELS LIKE RAIN include the lovely title track, written by John Hiatt and featuring Bonnie Raitt on slide guitar. SLIPPIN IN' benefited from the presence of veteran pianist Johnnie Johnson, who also crops up on "My Time After Awhile" from LIVE! THE REAL DEAL. A fourth studio ...

| | Ann Savoy If Dreams Come True CD (2007)
Best Of British Blues, Vol. 1 songs
$13.45 Renowned for her respectful and authentic zydeco recordings with a variety of groups, Ann Savoy took a small detour on this 2007 release that lounges near the smoother, jazzier end of the French-Southern spectrum, and includes several jazz and pop standards as well. Savoy's voice is red-wine rich and intoxicating, and Her Sleepless Knights provide able support.
ANN SAVOY & HER SLEEPLESS KNIGHTS Ann Savoy never rests musically. She and the players have produced a hugely enjoyable and timeless recording. - Richard Thompson In the world of Cajun music, Ann Savoy is one of the most admired icons of the genre. She's a singer with a gift for subtlety and nuance, an adept musician and producer. Beyond that, as a writer and photographer, she has extensively documented the unique music and culture of Southwest Louisiana. Now, with the May 15th release of Ann Savoy & Her Sleepless Knights, she's making music that breaks new ground while maintaining respect for the traditions of the past. She, together with her all-star band, has made an album of jazz-tinged music that is, at once, swinging and sultry. With both down home and cosmopolitan overtones, it's a unique work that is certain to find an audience far removed from the Louisiana prairie and bayou land that birthed it. Born and raised in Richmond, VA, she began playing guitar as a pre-teen and went on to become a French major at the University of Virginia. She met Cajun music traditionalist Marc Savoy more than thirty years ago at the National Folk Festival in Washington, DC. The two soon married and went on to raise four children. Ann would write Cajun Music: A Reflection of a People, a Botkin Book ...
