QUIET DAYS is also available with WRAPPED IN STILLNESS and LETTING THE WORLD GO BY, in the 3 CD set SACRED SPA MUSIC SERIES.
Quiet Days is a collection of slow-paced, relaxing new age instrumentals. Each song is filled with ambient notes, keyboards, nature sound effects, and other staples of the genre. This is actually a very effective album, providing decent music that really does relax the listener. Anyone who does not like this genre will probably not be won over here, but for a peaceful listen, there are a lot worst places to start than here. ~ Bradley Torreano
This is part of Real Music's "Sacred Spa Music" series.

| | Tibetan Incantations CD (1998) (Import) Australia
Quiet Days
$11.29 For the purposes of healing and meditation, Tibetan Incantations includes three chants by Buddhist monks and an accompanying essay on the purpose and role of music in Tibetan Buddhism. ~ John Bush
Traditionalists should avoid this CD at all costs. The front cover art and back blurb would lead the consumer to expect religious devotions straight out of a monastery -- droning voices accompanied by resonant bells and flanked by spaces of living silence. Although the opening chimes are promising, what follows could dispatch a diabetic at 50 paces. There are allegedly instruments like wooden flutes, drums, and lutes buried somewhere under the gooey vocals and layers of banal new age electronica. The first track features a fiddler who does an amazing impression of Welsh soprano Charlotte Church, followed by a mixed choir repeating a mantra until the listener achieves not the bliss of nirvana, but a sensation resembling Chinese water torture. The second tune is redolent of the type of easy fix offered by fake spiritual leaders in that it slows one's heart and respiration, but also hits their brain like a shot of industrial-strength Novocain. The third and final cut purports to be an alternative version of the first but actually consists of 26 minutes and 29 seconds worth of chanting voices punctuated by woodblocks and bells. Of course, for devout Buddhists, the latter is probably more the thing wanted, but everyone else would probably use it to wiggle out of a stubborn lease. As for the first two pieces, why anybody would meditate to this stuff is difficult to fathom, ...
| | Amethystium Odonata CD (2001)
Quiet Days
$12.75 This is the debut album from Amethystium which received a groundswell of support from online listeners, to the tune of a half million downloads before its official release. The album is attributed to Oystein Ramfjord, a composer from Norway who makes ambient electronic music full of mystifying sounds. The opening song, "Opaque," begins with an incredible underwater sonar pulse that makes way for passages of Indian vocals that are very reminiscent of Deep Forest. In fact, most songs employ well-crafted samples of ethnic music from disparate regions. These are held together by a steady synth percussion and sweeping vocals. ...
| | Letting The World Go By CD (2001)
Quiet Days
$13.25 LETTING THE WORLD GO BY is also available with QUIET DAYS and WRAPPED IN STILLNESS, in the 3 CD set SACRED SPA MUSIC SERIES.
The best new age labels promote not only music that is melodically pleasing, but also can be encouraged as part of a spiritual lifestyle. It's perhaps a bit pretentious for Real Music to speak of this captivating sampler of its roster as "carefully selected to help you discover and strengthen your true essence, your Real self," but there is some truth to its track-to-track abilities to relax any tensions. The 11 tracks are divided between the elegant piano seductions of Bernward Koch, the gentle acoustic guitar of Govi, Karunesh's dramatic soundscapes, the soft ivory hearts of Danny Wright and Kevin Kern, and the mystical sweeping atmospheres of 2002. Cynics like to call new age music aural wallpaper, but in some ways, that's a good thing. One can't always be frantic and dancing. The tracks here seem designed to inspire rest and relaxation ...

| | Amethystium Aphelion CD (2003)
Quiet Days
$14.45 Aphelion is the point where a planet or any celestial body is furthest from the sun. While this must be pretty dark place, Amethystium breathes light into the shadows. Amethystium is Oystein Ramfjord, a Norwegian composer who shapes elements of electronica and darkwave, evoking classic Tangerine Dream and Kitaro. This is the follow-up album to ODONATA, Ramfjord's acclaimed debut. Voices figure prominently into each song's construction. Often ethereal and wordless, these sound forms give a great depth and haunting quality to the music, while the only discernible lyrics are found on "Autumn Interlude." Amidst pitch shifting and electronic squall, guest vocalist Joyelle Brandt soars, recalling the powerful collaboration between ...
| | Battlelore Where The Shadows Lie CD (2002)
Quiet Days
$14.49 The debut full-length from Finnish fantasy/gothic metal outfit Battlelore, Where the Shadows Lie, displays more songwriting and arrangement skills than listeners might expect from a new act. One reason for the group's original delivery is their unconventional lineup. In all, there are seven members including three vocalists performing on this 2002 offering. Founder/guitarist Jyri Vahvanen is joined by guitarist and co-lead vocalist Tommi Havo, second (clean) vocalist Patrik Mennander, female vocalist Kaisa Jouhki, keyboard player Maria, drummer Henri Vahvanen, and bassist Miika ...
| | Dean Evenson Raga Cycle CD (2004)
Quiet Days
$13.39 RAGA CYCLE is an entrancing recording by American composer and flutist Dean Evenson and Indian sitar masters Pandit Shivnath Mishra and Deobrat Mishra, a father and son duo from the Indian holy city of Benares. In this masterpiece of cultural blending, the trio performs traditional ragas with modern improvisations, including a call-and-response interlude that shows the versatility of these ancient songs. Ragas are generally played in a religious context, and the music chosen for this collection is composed for royal meditation and devotion. The contemporary listener will immediately understand the power of the ragas and their ability to create a calming atmosphere of reverence and passion. Evenson has collaborated with dozens of artists from many different genres and his work on RAGA CYCLE just might be his most satisfying. Evenson keeps a low profile, but soon his alto flute becomes the ...
