Danny O'Keefe songs Product Information
Danny O'Keefe album for sale by Danny O'Keefe was released Mar 12, 2002 on the Collectors' Choice Music label. Danny O'Keefe's first album is a tentative affair, stylistically diverse and unfocused with a handful of strong songs. Danny O'Keefe CD music One of the latter, "Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues," appears in a markedly inferior early arrangement (O'Keefe would re-record the song and enjoy a Top Ten hit the following year). Combining elements of country, blues, folk, and jazz with Bob Dylan-inflected vocals and songwriting, Danny O'Keefe is more promising than effective. ...See Full Description

Very good music,to compound with Gorden Lightfoot or Don McLean or Jim Croce. Recommendable!

I first purchased this album in the 70's after reading a favorable review in Rolling Stone Magazine and nearly wore Side 1 out. I couldn't believe it when I saw the CD was available and purchased it immediately. One reviewer said the album was uneven and maybe it is, but there are certainly several gems here that are worth having. Two of my favorites are "Covered Wagon" and "Steel Guitar" -- two good country flavored rock songs that have a loose barroom feel and make the most of the Muscle Shoal musicians. “Steel Guitar’ has some of the best guitar work I’ve ever heard-and great lyrics too—it’s about a war widow who plays steel guitar in a bar to ease the pain of her losing her husband, “she steels a guitar like she steals a heart”. Another of my favorites is “3:10 Smokey Thursday” about a smoggy day in LA. It resonated with me since I was raised in LA and can remember some terribly smoggy days. Other good songs too, and of course “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues”, unfortunately, his only real hit. I have most of his albums but this is probably my favorite. It has songs that exhibit his youthful exuberance (see cover photo) and yet other songs that reflect the wisdom of heartache. If we’re lucky, his other albums will be released too.
