This captivating romantic comedy celebrates brazen, controversial 19th-Century feminist author George Sand and the unlikely object of her desire: well-mannered composer Frederic Chopin. Bohemian provocateur Sand (Judy Davis) is setting Paris ablaze by wearing men's clothing and taking a long line of lovers! But when she first hears the heavenly music of Chopin (Hugh Grant), she vows to stop at nothing - including transforming herself - to capture the heart of the fragile, shy and painfully straight-laced musician! Will this love song ultimately crescendo or will it become one of history's greatest unfinished symphonies? An exploration of the relationship between writer George Sand and composer Frederic Chopin. Sand who dresses up as a man, becomes enraptured by Chopin (Hugh Grant). Life becomes rather amusing when Sand shows up as an unexpected guest at the royal mansion of the Baron and Baroness d'Antan. Here she encounters not only Chopin and friends Liszt and Delacroix, but lover Felicien Mallefille and the man of her dreams, Alfred de Musset. Two lovers could never be more different than George Sand and Frederic Chopin, yet they are drawn together by an unnerving bond. A bond that can't be broken, despite the best efforts of those around them. Impromptu Reviews: "...Merrily and unapologetically contemporary....Davis certainly cuts a lively figure..."-- Janet Maslin, New York Times "...A witty, upscale romp....The cast is unusually fertile..." -- 3 1/2 out of 4 stars

Impromptu film
$9.69 This Academy Award-winner for Best Foreign Language Film was a big art house hit, spawning a whole international subgenre, "foodie" (films about the liberating effects of good food). It's adapted from a story by Isak Dinesen about two sisters in a 19th century Calvinist settlement in Denmark who, under their late father's rigorous spiritual dictates, pass up their chances for romance and worldly success. Years pass; they grow into charitable old spinsters and one day a French war refugee, Babette (Stéphane Audran), comes to work for them. Life goes quietly one for years until one day Babette decides to prepare a lavish gourmet dinner for the elders of the town, even though the thought of such decadence makes the sisters fear for their Christian souls. This all may sound rather dull to some viewers, but rest assured, no one who has seen this film has ever regretted it. Even with its measured pacing and austere emotional palette this remains a riveting experience from the first frame to the last. The acting is marvelously naturalistic, and the cinematography evokes the dark beauty of 19th century Scandinavian paintings, rendering the ancient, white-whiskered faces of the villagers, the windswept coastline, the ...

Impromptu review
$23.55 FIGHT CLUB is narrated by a lonely, unfulfilled young man (Edward Norton) who finds his only comfort in feigning terminal illness and attending disease support groups. Hopping from group to group, he encounters another pretender, or "tourist," the morose Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter), who immediately gets under his skin. However, while returning from a business trip, he meets a more intriguing character--the subversive Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). They become fast friends, bonding over a mutual disgust for corporate consumer-culture hypocrisy. Eventually, the two start Fight Club, which convenes in a bar basement where angry men get to vent their frustrations in brutal, bare-knuckle bouts. Fight Club soon becomes the men's only real priority; when the club starts a cross-country expansion, things start getting really crazy.
