Born of two members from Living Sacrifice, the unholy trio of Soul Embraced embraces death metal's characteristic musical angst with a Southern rock flavor. As expected, the group's standard fare of grindcore vocals, rapid-fire pentatonic guitar blasts, and polyrhythmic drum figures is on demonic display. Yet this time out, Soul Embraced works within a familiar pop song format that leaves plenty of room for melody and chord changes readily known to arena rockers. The bridge of "Angels With Raven Hearts" brazenly adapts a major key progression to the group's lethal canon. "Buried In" and "The Cold Stares of Dead Eyes" are two cuts that tread modern rock radio waters by way of Chad Moore's crooning and Rocky's guitar breaks, which neatly pick out a few blue notes à la Eric Clapton. "Scars Remain" opens with a motif dangerously close to a clichéd air-guitar anthem from the 1980s; however, the commercial slate is wiped clean as soon as the first verse kicks up. In a genre that thrives on formula and repetition, Soul Embraced adds a welcome blast of soul on This Is My Blood. ~ Tom Semioli

Soul Embraced really has a great album on their hands with this one. The band does really well to only have 3 members. I have been a long time fan of Living Sacrifice, and I thought this band would be good since 2 members from Living Sacrifice are in it. I was right. This Is My Blood is excellent. The vocals are well done and change pitch on a pretty regular basis. Recommended for fans of death or black metal.

This band really crafts their music and doesn't just take one or two good songs, throw in some filler, and pump out albums for $$. "This is my blood" is no exception. Its basically metal core with more with some death metal influences.

the guitars drums and vocals all flow so smoothly, but delivering such hard hitting metal and still sounding so smooth is rarely heard of.

When an artist wants to be truly harsh and blistering, density can be a highly effective tool. In avant-garde jazz, density is the thing that makes Charles Gayle, Albert Ayler, and post-1964 John Coltrane much harsher than AACM icons like Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell -- and in metal, density is what gives Slayer's God Hates Us All a claustrophobic quality that you don't get from the old-school fantasy metal of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Ronnie James Dio, and Black Sabbath. Soul Embraced has frequently been described as a death metal band, and lead vocalist Chad Moore often favors the sort of demonic-sounding, larynx-ripping vocal style that death metal, black metal, and grindcore are known for. But Immune, the band's third album, underscores the fact that Soul Embraced aren't your average death metal/black metal combo -- and that it would be a mistake to lump them in with bands like In Aeternum, Dark Angel, Impaled, and Triumphator. Immune has as much to do with alternative metal as it does with death metal -- not that the two are mutually exclusive by any means -- and in terms of influences, Rocky Gray's guitar playing is all over the metal map.
