Non Dimenticar album
$13.09 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim. QUIET NIGHTS isn't solely a Brazilian-themed outing, ...

Non Dimenticar album
$9.89 How a good-looking Jewish boy from Brooklyn discovered the secret of success in an updated form of mariachi music is perhaps beyond our scope. Then again, it might not be such a mystery after all. Aside from the obvious example of exotica, much easy listening depends upon more than a touch of ethnicity to maintain its musical roots. What Herb Alpert found in Mexican street bands was a previously untapped source of south-of-the-border melody and rhythm. With its unlikely combination of Alpert's cool Chet Baker-like trumpet and the blocky cadences of a marching band, the Tijuana Brass produced a lively, colorful mix that managed to appeal to hips and squares alike.
WHIPPED CREAM & OTHER DELIGHTS was Herb Albert's most successful album, helped--no doubt--by its highly provocative cover art. The tunes are mostly unknown originals ...
| | Miles Davis Tribute To Jack Johnson CD (1970) Remastered
Non Dimenticar CD music
$7.59 A TRIBUTE TO JACK JOHNSON was originally conceived as the soundtrack for a documentary on the life of the first African American heavyweight boxing champion, but the album stands on its own as one of the most brilliant, compelling fusion recordings ever made. This is due in large part to the increasing influence of rock and funk on Miles's aesthetic, to the superb musicians (including Davis himself-- who turns in some stunningly vigorous solos), and ...

Non Dimenticar songs
$10.75 Despite being a three time winner of It's Showtime at the Apollo, winner of the Cognac Hennesy Jazz Search and a protégé of the late Grover Washington, Jr., this Michigan based saxman may be the most accomplished player, composer and producer groove-loving smooth jazz fans have never heard of. He's also been "hiding," doing sessions and live dates over the years with everyone from Norman Brown and Will Downing to Kirk Franklin and Najee. But after three previous indie releases, his shadowy profile was bound to move to the forefront with the release of this in the pocket, gospel tinged, sensual soul-driven debut on Megawave Records. His national profile has increased these past years as he's toured with the popular guitarist Tim Bowman, who makes his crackling electric presence known on the lively, ultra-catchy and slightly retro soprano tune "Bliss." The opening title track is a joyful blend of thump, brass and catchy wordless vocals, while "Mo' Better Blues" digs deeper and shows Scott's sense of soul-jazz history, very much in the Cannonball Adderley style. For the most part, Scott keeps an even mid-tempo and romantic keel, joining straight to the heart, picture perfect (and radio ready) melodies with colorful swirls of vocals and dazzling horn sections. His gospel influences shine ever so gently through the brassy sway and Electronic Wind Instrument melody of one of the most memorable tracks, "Hope in Darkness"; other tunes like "Voyage" show off his strong flute skills and his love for more adventurous jazz. This disc, which primed the versatile saxman for breakthrough instrumental stardom, is part of a rollout of various projects that marks the Lansing, MI based Megawave's emergence onto the national scene after being a regional label for 35 years. ~ Jonathan Widran
