Strauss J: Waltzes & Polkas
$18.94 Andrea Bocelli's 2009 My Christmas album finds the Italian tenor performing various classic holiday-themed songs that touch on a mix of classical, opera, and pop. Included are such well-known holiday songs as "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "O Tannenbaum," and "Silent Night." The versatile Bocelli also delves into such iconic Christmas hits as "Blue Christmas" and "The Christmas Song" (featuring a duet with Natalie Cole). Of course, the opera and classic songs are Bocelli's bread and butter, and here listeners get such lavishly produced cuts as "Adeste Fidelis," "Cantique del ...

| | Mercymachine Devil I Know CD (2005)
Strauss J: Waltzes & Polkas
$8.69 Mercymachine's fourth recording is quieter and more introspective than previous efforts, the instrumentation stripped down to a Telecaster, two cellos, double bass, piano, and vocals. "The Devil I Know" is about sin and redemption, but mainly sin...the spirit of the project was inspired by a profligate priest, a man prone to fistfights and heavy drinking. May god have mercy on his beautiful soul. Jazno Francoeur mans the helm on vocals and guitar, Paul Fluery and Dan Cermeno once again lend their trademark strings, India Turner contributes additional guitar, and pianists John Wagner and Ed Krout round out the ensemble. "The Devil I Know" was produced in Orlando by Jazno and John Wagner. John also engineered and mixed the project at Here Kitty Kitty Studios; additional songs were engineered and mixed by Mark Mason at Phat Planet Studios, then mastered by Grammy-award winner Bob Katz at Digital Domain. Mercymachine formed in 1994 then released their debut album in 1997. Their sophomore effort, "In Your Bed," was released in 2002, and then remixed by a handful of prominent electronica artists in 2003. They have had numerous record campaigns in CMJ, AAA, and club markets, from the East coast to the west, from the deep south to Canada, and have received airplay on NPR. Mercymachine is on the Magnatune label."Mercymachine's new album has a concept about a man lost to drink and despair, but despite this it's a seductive record. Jazno Francoeur who fronts the band sings compellingly and has penned his songs well. Opener "30 years" is reminiscent of Red House Painters in its quiet intensity. "I need a new Jesus" sees the protagonist struggling with his faith and Francoeur paints his pain in strong colors. The orchestration is deft. The title song is a moving soft hush. Its description of spiritual torment is both bleak and believable. Leonard Cohen's "Winter Lady" appears in a lovely version. It's a good choice of a song. The album approaches its themes in a Cohen-like fashion after all. And it succeeds in being a strong work ...

Strauss J: Waltzes & Polkas
$17.09 This is Sadie's first classical recording featuring art songs from Faure to Schubert. Accompanied on piano by Dr Leslie Dukes, Sadie's voice captures the soul and and sends the heart on a journey through time. Off the success of her highly downloaded single O Del Mio Dolce Ardor (see Sadie: Everland), Sadie decided to record a handful of her favorite songs from around the world. The songs were recorded during the weekend of the world famous Cotati Accordion Festival which she used for the title of her CD. She used the "ian" suffix instead of the proper "ion" suffix for her husband Ian. There were no accordions used on this recording.Sadie Luke is a teacher, performer, composer, and producer of music in Sonoma County. She has been performing all of her life including involvement in competitions, musicals and solos as a young child and all throughout school. She is currently studying full time at Sonoma State as a Music Education major with Voice as her main instrument. She has been studying classical voice for thirteen years. What began as a pursuit of better vocal technique for the sake of her original compositions has become a lifetime passion for classic and concert music including art song, melodie, and lieder. She currently performs at the Oakmont Community Church as their artist in residence and regularly in the church choir. She also performs with the Sonoma State Symphonic Wind Ensemble, The Sonoma County Bach Choir and The Figgy Pudding Carolers.
