| | U2 No Line On The Horizon CD (2009)
It's Sydney Or The Bush songs
$10.49 There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting at new worlds for Bono to conquer.
After spending the 1990s experimenting with electronic music and returning to arena-ready rock during the first few years of the 21st century, U2 stakes out territory somewhere between those two points on 2009's NO LINE ON THE HORIZON. Enlisting its go-to production trio of Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite, the Irish quartet seems intent on crafting a quirkier companion piece to HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB, and they succeed with restless tracks such as "Get on Your Boots," which sounds like "Vertigo" hijacked by T. Rex, and "Stand Up Comedy," a wiry number that lets the Edge cut loose with barbed guitar lines. Some of most striking songs on HORIZON are the ones that venture farthest from U2's comfort zone, as on the surprisingly weighty title track, a tune ...

| | John Denver Rocky Mountain Christmas CD (1975)
It's Sydney Or The Bush CD music
$6.09 This 1998 reissue contains 5 bonus tracks (including the previously
unreleased "White Christmas") not included on the original release.
John Denver's music always had a warm, home-spun quality to it, so it isn't surprising that his 1975 holiday effort, Rocky Mountain Christmas, is a wonderfully low-key and friendly Christmas album. Divided between classic carols and new numbers, such as the fine "Aspenglow" and "Christmas for Cowboys," the album is an appealing, pretty record, perfect for late nights by the fireside. The 1998 CD reissue adds five bonus tracks: "Jingle Bells," "White Christmas," "The Music is You," "Perhaps Love," and "Dreamland Express." ~ Rodney Batdorf

| | Descendents Somery CD (1991)
It's Sydney Or The Bush music CDs
$14.09 SOMERY is a retrospective compilation of tracks from each of the Descendents' studio records. It serves as a stopgap between the end of the band and the birth of its next permutation as ALL. The songs collected rarely hit the three-minute mark, and they amply demonstrate the rapid-fire punk that would eventually mutate into the pop-punk of such bands as Green Day and the Offspring. In fact, Green Day's DOOKIE is (perhaps overly) reminiscent of such Descendents songs as "Suburban Home" and "Sour Grapes."
This collection includes all of the Descendents' classics. Among the highlights are the one-second "All" and the similarly short "Weinerschnitzel" (a funny-punk masterpiece). Also essential are the oddly concern-filled anti-addiction warning "Bikeage," the sing-along chorus of "I Like Food" ("I like food / Food tastes good"--repeat as necessary), the perfectly snotty "I Don't Wanna Grow Up," and the almost sweet "Cheer" and "Get the Time." SOMERY is the perfect record for trips back to your hometown. It will put you in exactly the ...
| | Acoustic Disc: 100% Handmade Music, Vol. 6 CD (2002)
It's Sydney Or The Bush songs
$11.19 Label-based compilations usually don't amount to a whole lot -- maybe a sampler of what's available out there. Most certainly don't say much about the artists involved. The Acoustic Disc sampler series is a different beast, though. The label is owned and run by mandolinist David Grisman, who also participates in the bulk of the label's numerous recording projects (he appears on ten of the album's 15 tracks). Even the tunes that Grisman isn't on speak well for his intentions. Thus, the sampler is a neat peek into Grisman's aesthetic, and gives the listener a good taste of what he is trying to accomplish with the instrument; from the Hawaiian swing of "Moonlight Bay" (with Mike Auldridge and Bob Brozman) to the string jazz of "Brazilian Street Dance" (with Denny Zeitlin) to the traditional Italian music of "Costumi Siciliani" (with Carlo Aonzo and Beppe Gambetta) to the folk-jazz fusion of his numerous collaborations with the late Jerry Garcia. It is the last partnership that provides ...
| | Graham Smith Final Battle CD (2004)
It's Sydney Or The Bush album
$12.95 The title of this entry from indie rock wunderkind Graham Smith isn't as climactic and final as it sounds. If anything, it's a new chapter for Smith, as he's even dropped the Kleenex Girl Wonder moniker. Faced with issues such as death (two of his bandmembers shockingly died within the previous few months), he's grown up a little and has written his most mature record to date. Unlike some previous recordings, Final Battle is free of comedic bits and self-indulgence. Drawing from drum'n'bass ("Lots of Love & a Long, Long Ladder" has sputtering beats), indie rock, and straightforward pop, Smith is focused and convincing. Lyrics about an apparent breakup are further proof that he's rather serious or doing a good job of pretending to be: "Game over, I'm giving up/I've had it with this/But I guess that that's what I get." Hopefully he ...
