Saxon followed up four or five brilliant albums with a bevy of pretty lousy ones, making any greatest hits set a tricky proposition for these New Wave of British Heavy Metal mainstays. And this a very poorly assembled greatest hits set even by those standards, so do yourself a favor: pick up Wheels of Steel or Strong Arm of the Law instead. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia Best Of Saxon Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) A good backup... Hardly the "best of" it claims to be, this album serves nonetheless as an effective "second" to the recently released Saxon 3 CD box set (the similarly and oh so creatively titled "very best of"), catching most of the good tracks ('Denim and Leather', 'The Eagle Has Landed', the live version of 'Princess of the Night') the newer and better set inexplicably passed on.
While this collection could conceivably work as a stand-alone for those looking for a quick sampling of the Saxon sound, ultimately, it comes off as far too pared down, with too many key tracks missing (no 'Power and Glory', 'Live Fast Die Young', 'Rock the Nations', 'Motorcycle Man' or 'And the Bands Played On'). Again, best purchased as a supplement to the recent box set.
Still and all, between the two of them, no "Battle Cry"? Come on, Byford... Submitted by Another 80's Metal Survivor (New York City) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Best of This is one of the best of best of's. I normally do not buy best of albums. If you like any Saxon, you will like all of this. Submitted by txa_07mgr (wimberley,tx) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Some Good, Some Bad This is a pretty decent best of. Most of the songs are great, but others are not so good. "This Town Rocks" should not be on here. Submitted by CD_Music_Freak (Earth) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Best Of Saxon album
$10.39 Although Twisted Sister's final studio album wasn't as commercially successful as its predecessors, it is still Twisted in every way and a great record. Released in 1987, the album took its cue from the cock-rock, pop-metal explosion happening at the time. But despite the obvious influence of this trend, the band retains it's heavy sound.
"Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant)" is a fist-pumping, angry tune given an added boost by new drummer Joey Franco, who's heavy pounding is reminiscent of John Bonham's. "Hot Love" has a Madonna-like feel to it, but with heavy guitars instead of the dance beat one might expect from the pop diva. The title track is a humorous, tongue-in-cheek ...

| | Total 3 CD (2001)
Best Of Saxon songs
$13.45 Kompakt's gradual and seemingly unending ascent continues with the third installment of the Total series; it's their tightest, brightest compilation of experimental techno yet, continuing to blur -- make that eliminate -- the boundary between the dancefloor and the living room. Bookended by two of the label's most melodic, emotional, and Detroit-influenced tracks (a good thing, no doubt), with Sascha Funke's gorgeous "Drei Auf Drei" as the opener and Closer Musik's equally spectacular "Departures" (why not "Deepartures"?) ...
| | Richard "Groove" Holmes Groove's Groove CD (1991)
Best Of Saxon album
$12.79 When 32 Jazz acquired the Muse catalogue in the late 1990s, the New York label had a goldmine of hard bop, post-bop and soul-jazz to reissue. Organ combos were one of Muse's strong points, and the company generally did right by Richard "Groove" Holmes, who signed with Muse in the 1970s and stayed there up until his death from a massive heart attack at the age of 60 on June 29, 1991. Released in 1997, this compilation spans 1977-1988 and points to the fact that the organist's Muse output wasn't much different from his Prestige dates of ...
