Les Etoiles De Chanson music CDs
$14.15 John Reischman & the JaybirdsFour years of touring across North America and Europe, three critically-acclaimed albums and a Canadian Juno nomination have established John Reischman and the Jaybirds as one of the top-flight bands in bluegrass music. With a unique traditional sound, the mandolin master and his band are known for powerful original songs and instrumentals, soaring vocals and refreshing interpretations of songs from the old-time repertoire presented with their own bluegrass twist.Their third album, 'The Road West' was released in January of 2005, and features more fresh and dynamic Jaybirds music currently being performed live in concert. " The musicianship is, as ever, flawless." Says the Georgia Straight in Jan/05. The new album follows the outstanding "Field Guide" (Copper Creek CCCD 0221; in Canada, Corvus CR 010) nominated in the 2003 Juno awards for best roots and traditional group, and selected by Acoustic Guitar magazine as one of the top CDs of 2003. | | Don Hammontree Mount Hope Days CD (2003)
Les Etoiles De Chanson music CDs
$13.15 With tunes ranging from the political to the passionate, New England songwriter Don Hammontree’s recently released Mount Hope Days offers a powerful, guitar-driven take on an age filled with uncertainty, fear and cynicism - melodic commentary that’s mixed with a healthy sense of humor, as songs like “Foot and Mouth Disease Band” and “Love the Hell Out of Me” demonstrate.Opening with the moody yet melodic “Nixon’s Children,” Hammontree - a resident of Fall River, Mass. - is ready for confrontation from the get-go in this Gen X vs. Baby Boomers clash. “Banks of the Tigris,” despite its bright, sing-songy chorus, is a stinging, satirical look at the war in Iraq, while the apocalyptic “Reap and Sow” addresses tit-for-tat Middle Eastern terrorism. Yet, not all is political blood and guts on Mount Hope Days. Affairs of the heart are addressed here, as well, in the lovely “Hothead,” co-written and sung by Manchester, England native Alanie Dutton, the stark “Failing,” and the biting “All the Great Adult Film Stars.” Then there’s a few laughs thrown in - the hormone-driven hillbilly stomp of “Love the Hell Out of Me,” the familiar premise of “Scratch Ticket” (getting stuck in line at a convenience store behind eight or so people wanting to buy - what else? - scratch tickets) and the epic “Foot and Mouth Disease Band,” the tale of a fictional Boston band that finds grudging success at home, but through persistence and dedication, ends up on the Howard Stern show and has top 10 hits in Pakistan. Mount Hope Days also features an eclectic range of musicscapes. An interesting hybrid of influences is ...
| | Fallon Franklin Red Lights CD (2004)
Les Etoiles De Chanson songs
$15.15 Fallon Franklin is one of the newest additions to rock music. Growing up in a small town in Texas, she held tight to her roots in folk music. Music was always around her. Her great grandfather, Major Franklin, was a world-class fiddle player and her grandfather, Royce Franklin, would take her to Texas swing festivals as a child. Her two cousins, Blake Powers and Freddie Powers, have worked with musicians from Willie Nelson to the late Waylon Jennings. Fallon wrote her first song at the age of ten. Ever since, her song lyrics have touched people of all ages and her angelic voice has captivated audiences. When asked about being a self-taught guitarist, she laughs and states, " I needed something to accompany my songs and vocals, plus when I was in school, all the guys thought that it was cool to be a chick and play guitar." Fallon graduated high school with more gigs under her belt than most people have in a lifetime. She would sing at any opportunity. Coffee shops, clubs, bar, private parties, restaurants and festivals filled her adolescent weeks. After moving away from home, she knew that she needed something bigger. Therefore, she moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas and to find a career in the live music capital of the world. After about a year, she decided that she wanted to uproot herself from Texas and see why everyone talked about Nashville. So in 2001, she moved to Tennessee to start up a band. After a short year, she decided that the Nashville scene wasn't her cup of tea. "Everything sounded the same. Everyone was fake and produced and that's just not my thing. I like raw music. Raw voices and raw talent, no copy- cats." So, Fallon moved back to Austin, Texas where she currently lives. Upon re-establishing herself in Texas, she joined forces with Blake Powers to form a band. Growing up together, they had molded their harmonics into that compared to James Taylor and Carly Simon and Simon and Garfunkel. Joined with Joey Campbell, an accomplished drummer, and grammy-award- winning ...
