I composed this CD after spending some time at McMurdo Base in Antarctica where I was diving under the ice with a group scientists who invited me there. I recorded nearly everything I could while travelling around Ross Island environs. When I returned home I started integrating these sounds with the musical impressions . It took me several years to complete the project .This CD has been reviewed in the Lonely Planet's book on Antarctica and has sold nearly 35,000 cd since it was released .It has been a favourite on expedition ships travelling to Antarctica and has been sold at several of the bases in Antarctica. This installment of the Winter Solstice series presents an of winter-themed recordings. In addition to usual Windham Hill artists such as George Winston and Liz Story, there are appearances by Marion Meadows, Todd Cochran, Narada recruit David Arkenstone, and the quartet of Brian Keane, Michael Manring, Paul McCandless and Lew Soloff. Perhaps surprisingly, the lack of traditional holiday material only enhances this disc's appeal, as do the first-rate performances.
