Ouverture album
$14.19 The fourth of four CD reissues taken from Art Pepper's three nights at the Village Vanguard in July 1977, as with the other releases, adds one selection ("Scrapple from the Apple") to the music of the original LP; all of the performances on this and the other sets have since been made available as part of a massive nine-CD box set. The great altoist was clearly excited to be playing at the famous New York club, and his rhythm section -- pianist George Cables, bassist George Mraz and drummer Elvin Jones -- consistently stimulates his imagination. This release has more variety than usual, for in addition to his alto playing (including a memorable unaccompanied solo on "Over the Rainbow"), Pepper switches to clarinet for the lengthy "More for Les" and ...

| | Chris Botti In Boston CDs (2009) With DVD
Ouverture music CDs
$14.99 A sequel of sorts to Chris Botti's 2006 PBS special, LIVE WITH ORCHESTRA & SPECIAL GUESTS, the September 2008 event LIVE IN BOSTON found the sartorially splendid cool jazz trumpeter accompanied by the Boston Symphony and a collection of celebrity vocalists. Also available as a DVD, the concert delivers an overview of popular music, with jazz standards like "I've Got You Under My Skin" right alongside "Ave Maria" and Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You." Whether featuring rocker Steven Tyler, AMERICAN IDOL chanteuse Katharine McPhee, or pop-opera superstar Josh Groban, all the tunes are presented in Botti's inimitable, Chet Baker-influenced uber-smooth style.
The trumpeter and special guests performed 2 star-studded concerts at the historic Boston Symphony Hall with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops on September 18 & 19, 2008. This DVD/CD set includes a 13 song CD plus 2 hour concert DVD, plus a 40 minute behind the scenes bonus. | | Vijay Iyer Historicity CD (2010) Digipak
Ouverture songs
$13.25 Vijay Iyer has captured the ears of critics and listeners like only a handful of the most elite jazz pianists since McCoy Tyner, Cecil Taylor, or Misha Mengelberg initially burst onto the scene. There's no other single player who sounds even remotely like him, few who can match his inventive and whimsical sense of play or seriousness, and absolutely nobody who ...
| | George Winston Autumn CD (1980) Windham Hill 20th Anniversary Edition
Ouverture album
$8.89 Principally recorded on June 19-20, 1980. Includes liner notes by George Winston.
AUTUMN was superstar new age pianist George Winston's first album to sell more than 1,000,000 copies. Listening to these spare, emotionally rich pieces, it's easy to understand why. But it's also clear what sets Winston apart from the hordes of other new age piano soloists: an insistent--occasionally even jarring--gothic sensibility that informs his music.
Like many of his albums, AUTUMN found its inspiration in the seasonal changes wrought upon the Montana landscape that Winston calls home. Though it might be easy to pigeonhole a composition ...

| | Where Did It Go Wrong - The Birth Of Blaq Angel CD (2009)
Ouverture album
$12.15 Birmingham Hip Hop Pioneer and Emmy® Nominee releases solo CDPatrick Johnson (aka S. Fly of B’ham pioneering hip hop group, The Red Light District) will release his debut solo CD - “Where Did It Go Wrong? the birth of Blaq Angel” - on July 14th, 2009. The resounding response from the hip hop community on the news from this Emmy® Nominated producer has been unanimous – they say “it’s about time”!S. Fly is a noted producer and hip hop activist, and was the chief founder of the mighty Red Light District – a family consisting of emcees, singers, and musicians – and helped pioneer the Alabama underground hip hop music scene. In 1996, Red Light released the now-classic single “I Know”, becoming the first Birmingham AL rap group to gain regular rotation on a major reporting station and selling over 300 copies in one week. The group followed up with the full length Welcome to the Red Light – Vol. 1 (1997), The Session (1998 and 2000), The John Woodlawn Project (2003), and several underground mix CD’s. During this era, Red Light produced and recorded advertisements for WABM-68 (2000 Fall jingle), St. Ides, and several local politicians and political groups – the first of any such group from Birmingham to do so. In later years many wondered if Red Light had broken up, as there was no new music being played on the radio ...
